Hi All
We have just been selected from the pool :D

I have a few questions that I am hoping somebody might be able to help me sort once and for all :hopeso

I claimed points for a trade qualification in Carpentery and joinery.

I have been ' off the tools ' so to speak for 7 years and have since moved into Production management and CAD design.

When we get the PR will I have to go 'back on the tools ' and if so for how long before I can resume the type of work I am doing now ??
Also I have heard that without a job offer the NZ Govt may issue 2 year work visas instead of PR. If this is the case would I need to work 'on the tools' for the full 2 years ????
Finally when we send our Passports in when we are invited to apply how long do they keep them as we have a holiday planned Nov/Dec.
Thanks for reading hope someone can help. :hopeso :hopeso

Hi Yorkie,

From my understanding, as long as you complete 3 months of work in your job role as indicated on your PR application, you should then be granted your PR. After that, I think it is up to you what you do.

As for when you have a Work Visa, I'm not sure. There'll be those far better qualified than I to answer this one.

As for your passports - perhaps you could get some notarised copies done of them? Either that, or if you are in the UK, visit NZ house, taking the originals and a copy of each - from what I have heard they will look at the originals, compare them with the copy and then give you your passports back. I'm not sure if this is official policy - just what I have heard.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Howard

My understanding is that as soon as you are granted PR, you can do as you please more or less. It may be worth checking with someone like Jamie Smith to be sure.
