We are moving from Canada in September. I am able to fly on a one way ticket with my Australian passport but we will need to purchase a flight out of NZ for my husband.

I was thinking we should make his departure flight to Perth instead of a return to Canada as we will be heading to Oz at some point if our first year for a visit anyways.

Would he be able to buy a flight out to Perth with a return portion back to New Zealand or does this flight out of NZ have to look like he is leaving permanently? Does this make sense? It would be cheapest for us to pay one way for him from Canada then a return ticket from Auckland to Perth (he should have PR by the time we make this trip to OZ) as we will be making that trip anyways.

Sorry if this is confusing?! I don't know if they are just looking for a flight out of the country or if they can tell that you purchased another return portion back to New Zealand again.

Thanks!

Shannon
