While we've been able to comprehensively research NZ as adults, are there any materials out there for kids?

We would like them to be more involved in the process and rather than them read the pictures in the adult literature, websies etc

It would be nice if there were resources aimed at their age group we could use. Books I presume are the primary point of call, but what about DVD's?

Has anyone found anything useful during their searches?

Ages are 8,10 and 12

A couple good NZ movies for kids....

http://www.whaleriderthemovie.com/

They're not nrcessarily imformative, but he latter does a little cultural lesson... with literary license. They're good 'sales' material!

Just a thought but perhaps there are some people on here with kids that your kids could exchange emails with.

I have had 2 lots of friends go to NZ recently and the second family to go said their son found it easier being able to talk to another child already there.

Good luck with your search I might try some of the tips myself.

We have 2 girls aged 11 and 9 yrs, and we have been in NZ since August '06Both of ours, especially Ellie the older one would be quite happy e-mailing any other kids, she loves spending time on the computer anyway! So no probs.

Caroline and Dave - good looking website that: thanks.

I don't know about SELLING NZ to our children - we're bribing our 6 year old daughter with the promise of a pet rabbit. Do they do pet rabbits in New Zealand?!

Hi,

We were led to believe the last thing they want in NZ are rabbits! We will have problems with that one too as we have a rabbit at the moment. Hoping Nanny might offer....... not that she knows yet!;)

Yes, they do rabbits - but they don't do hamsters. I'm going to miss our hamsters :(

We don't have a problem selling it to our eldest two (boys 10 & 13) they are so excited and cannot wait to go! They are into Sailing, scouting, outdoors stuff etc.

Our 4yr girl is another matter - she knows we are going on holiday but I don't think she's so struck on the idea of living there but thats purely because of her age and she doesn't know anything other than what she lives with now and always has done. She likes her school and has her friends and grandparents here so doesn't see why we should move;)

We are hoping that the holiday will sell NZ to her. We will keep pointing out things that will apply to her when we live there eg. parks, beaches etc . And if all else fails then bribery sounds good :o We have spoken about how we'd be able to get pets perhaps in a new house (and new country!) and I'd definately be pro-active regards any kids clubs, groups she wants to join or perhaps lessons in riding or dancing or whatever works at the time ;)

In the meanwhile I show her lots of nice photos of NZ, those websites above are going to be great for her and general family talk about NZ.

Hope you get there with yours!

Oh yes, it is hamsters - sorry. I knew it was one of the animals we have Wiki!

Thanks for all your suggestions on selling NZ to the children. One of our biggest problems will be the children leaving my parents and family who have played a huge part in their lives. I guess we just have to believe in why we are doing it and go for it.
