We secured our rental today and move in at the weekend.

It's more like a holiday home really, and comes completely fully furnished, which is excellent for us as we sold up everything before we left so don't even have a knife and fork with us :laugh

We have got this for $300 a week; and plan on this being our first stage in our search for our real home, whenever & wherever that may be.

It's about 40 minutes outside Wellington and is owned by an elderly couple who rents this and another property about 50 yards away, on the same piece of land where there are stables and a paddock where they ride their horses from time to time.

We overlook a beautiful lake and have a sun deck all around the property, which is nice while its as beautiful weather as it has been, but I can imagine that wind whipping up around there at times :uhoh

How long we stay there depends on if Keiths gets in the police force, and if so where he may be asked to go; which we will know about in 6 months or so.

We're really excited to move there and is our first taste of home in NZ which we think is a nice retreat from the hussle & bussle of the UK.

Looks great guys! Is it still feeling like a holiday? Takes a long, long time not to feel that way because of the sheer beauty and variation in landscape that is just around each corner. Can feel your exitement all the way here in AKL!!

What beautiful views - I still get tingles every time i drive towards our 'home' and see the ranges - especially on a sunny day when you see all the shadows and contrasts on the hillsides - I love it!

So where in Wellington are you? Obviously no where near the city itself it looks too peaceful for that!

Thanks guys

Is it still feeling like a holiday

Isn't life one long holiday here...?? I'm ready to go back to work actually, am I totally mad or what :laugh

Leachio - happy to hear from you when you arrive, Keith is trying out for the NZPOL in April.

So where in Wellington are you? Obviously no where near the city itself it looks too peaceful for that!
Its in the postal district of Porirua , the nearest village/town is called Pauatahunui (can't pronounce that yet though ;) )

We can't wait... We've sorted out bank accounts, I've gone with the Bank of New Zealand, Keith has gone with the Lloyds equivalent, The National Bank. We've got our phone line and broadband arranged for Monday and the electricity supply sorted out - all went ok, no probs, in fact everyone was very helpful.

We've also been out shopping today as the rental has all the necessary bits of furniture but we needed to buy bedding, kitchen pots & pans etc., and of course the most important kettle for the tea... I'm pleased we haven't shipped all of that stuff over as it was quite exciting going house shopping today - it's been many a year since I've done that.

Just to forewarn you all... it won't be an earthquake in Welly on Sunday - it will be us popping that champagne cork :laugh

Oh to sit down, relax, enjoy the view and know that I don't need to move anywhere - (for a while at least)

Oh you lucky people. Me & hubby are in the throes of making the big move & it looks like Welly will be our first stop. I really hope we're as fortunate but from what I've read so far we may have problems ... bringing our dog. Learning yoga on how to cross more things than fingers. Good Luck to you.

It's beautiful. Congratulations.

What are the flowers in the last photo called? I saw them everywhere in New Zealand and thought they were gorgeous. I did ask the name when I was there, but promptly forgot it!
