just need to know a few things about getting my eldest dylan who will be 6 on 10 april into a school when we arrive at the start of march. will he be eligible for a place straight away? and how do i go about enrolling him as kids who are already in nz will have taken part in enrolment period?when are the school holidays and term dates etc?spoken to his teacher here and she can give academic report etc?

do kids start when they are six or start the year that they are 6?

also if he has allready done a year and a bit will he have to start again,

what does the first yr of school involve.
help needed as its all starting to happen fast....

Children can start school here the day they turn 5 .. lots of them start the term after they become 5. It will make no difference if your child has or hasn't attended school elsewhere, the school will put them in the most appropriate class for their age and ability .. usually new entrants or possibly, Year One.

If you are coming here on a WP or have PR then he is entitled to start school immediately.

Bringing a report is fine but you might find the school here won't need it - they do their own assessments.

Term dates this year are:

Term 1 Wed 7 Feb - Thurs 5 Apr
Term 2 Mon 23 Apr - Fri 29 Jun
Term 3 Mon 16 July - Fri 21 Sep
Term 4 Mon 8 Oct Thur 20 Dec

But occasional days may be different.

I think there have been numerous posts on this forum about starting school - do a search and you'll get a good idea of how it goes.
