I am very confused - not difficult to confuse me but:

I went to the local Police Station in Warrington yesterday to ask for a police check form and was given a Data Protection Act - subject access form which asked me which database I wanted to check. (Holmes, Command & Control, Administration of Justice Systems etc)

Is this the right form?

OH has got her form through work and is an "enhanced CRB form". This is the form used by anyone who wishes to work with children.

Is this one suitable for immigration?

Or is there another form? I have looked on the cheshire police web site but cannot find anything there.

Any help appreciated.

Yeah, this is the right form, I was confused too. You just don't ask for any extras and you basically just get a short letter back saying they have no files on you.

You can ask them if that is the 'immigration police check form' just to be sure - I'll see if OH can send you a copy of ours by PM - as he scanned them before we sent them in.

CAREFUL here, the only form they accept is from the National Identification Service and it's headed "section 7, Data protection act, 1998 - subject access"

As a teacher, I too had a full disclosure enhanced CRB and was told THIS IS NOT ACCEPTED IN NZ IMMIGRATION!
[silly since it's a far more detailed search! :roll ]

Anyway, if there's any confusion about the form you need tell them it's the one with the blue bands across the top and bottom, and is supplied by New Scotland Yard.

I'll stand corrected, but if I remember rightly, I think the forms title is DP1.

I remember that I rang the local (Blackburn) police station and they gave me another number to ring (not sure, but it may have been Hutton HQ at Preston) and they put the forms in the post.

Thanks everybody.

Thats really useful - just broke news to OH that she (or rather her head) had wasted money applying for new CRB.

Sounds like I have the right form so will need to make a copy for her.

I agree that not accepting enhanced CRB seems stupid as it is essential in this country for so many jobs.

Useful to know that. My husband and I until fairly recently used to have teenagers from care living with us, it's called supportive lodgings and is a step between foster care and independant living. Anyway we had our CRB forms redone last year - they are valid for 3 years so I wouldn't of bothered getting more done in the event that we ever get past the ITA stage lol! At least I now know!

John,
I'm not sure if a copy is acceptable - you might be best getting another one from the police station. You can just fill it in there and then (if you have your photos) and give them their £10 fee. That's what we did.

Very annoying isn't it? I have a Scottish Enhanced Disclosure and as has been stated by others this is not acceptable. I think it's because the letter from the National Identification Service (or whatever it's called) actually comes direct from Scotland Yard in London.
