This is going to sound crazy, but it's the one question that the Dragonlady keeps hounding me about.

Peanut Butter.

She lives on the stuff. Can't get along without it. Needs to know that she can get it. Nothing special or fancy, just the ground up peanuts with nothing else added.

I've seen the page about import regulations on the NZ safety website. That leads me to believe that it is available, but she wants me to make absolutely sure.

When I first arrived in NZ, I was surprised at the excellent choices in the supermarkets......for some reason (and probably like your wife) I thought that there would be loads of stuff that would be unavailable, but I've not been too disappointed so far.

I have yet to find a peanut butter with only peanuts in it, after a month of conscientious looking. Even at health food emporia! There's always some oil in there to act as a stabiliser and 'improve' the texture (mainly by preventing the natural separation that inevitably occurs with just-peanut-butter).

Guess I will have to be content with no-salt and no-sugar (Sanitarium, as mentioned, also Pam's).

Do they still have a brand of whole foods store called Bin Inn in NZ?

The one in Invercargill had a machine where you could put in peanuts and it would smush it into a jar - no need to add any oil or salt.

I always thought there was oil in peanut butter? Or is it the natural oils from the nut itself...

My jar says peanuts 98%, vegetable oil 2%, I suppose it would be a bit too dry without a bit of extra oil...

Like Kiwi says, that's the kind I'm looking for. You put the nuts into a grinder, select the desired smooth/crunchiness, then it comes out into a jar. Over time, some oil will naturally rise to the top.

I'm sure that the one jubjub mentions would be fine if I can't find the other.
Thanks all.
