I am stopping in Hong Kong for 3days/Nights as a stopover en route to NZ, i am travelling with Bunac on a group booking.
There guidance regards vacinations for Hong Kong is unclear, it says
"Vacinations are normally recommended for Hong Kong, but as only a 3day trip and accomodation is all air-conditioned, there are at your doctors discretion"
 SO, do i need any jabs for only 3nights in Hong Kong? Considering we be doing tourst thing, of tours and bars and of course sleep! To be honest i am Phobic of needles etc (not just coward but genuinely phobic, think quivering cold-sweats 2-3days beforehand) and would pay to avoid any jabs, but at same time id rather not die of some tropical illness either !
Anyone any advice or experience of stopping over in Hong Kong?

IMO it would seem highly unlikely that you need any. Only if you were to go into 'rain forest type' of environment (malaria) etc I would consider it. Also I imagine you would take the normal sensible steps like not drinking tap water etc I'm sure you'll be fine. We went to Singapore last year on our stopover for 5 days and none of us had any jabs.
Am sure that someone on here will have more 'medically' based knowledge to share.
Happy travelling!

Lee, we stopped over in both Hong Kong and Singapore last year (with 2 boys in tow) and our doctor said we didn't need any. They gave us a sheet with some info on the types of illnesses that can be contracted but to be honest if you're sensible you'll have no problems. As Babette said, it would be wise to avoid any 'rainforest' type places. I'm sure you'll have a great time.:yes

Hi Lee,
We have been through HK and Singapore and not had any jabs at all. Doctors advice was the same as above, don't drink from the tap, avoid ice cream and washed salads. Obviously it depends on where you are staying and eating too. Big chains are likely to be far safer than the man selling honied ducks at the side of the road!

Lived in HK untill November last year. The only thing I would worry about is Hep A....as long as you dont eat any seafood you should be fine. Otherwise its fine as long as you dont go into the Country parks...( which I dought on a short stop over)
If you are going with kids take them to Ocean Park rather than Disney. Have great Peking duck at The American in Wan Chai, and Dim Sum at City Hall....be there by 11.30 or its a 2 hr wait......
Enjoy.....its a great place

Hi Lee :D
I've been to Singapore (on my way to NZ back in 04) and I didn't get any jabs for the stopover of about 3 or 4 days....I have always imagined Hong Kong to be about the same - I'll be skipping on the jabs!!
Hope you're ticking off those things on the to do list - time is dashing...another month bites the dust!! Soon you will be :exit
Take care

Lived in Singapore too!! Its very clean but anyone going to Asia and eating seafood really should get a Hep A jab.....it is a problem.
Dengi fever passed via Mossis is also a problem...no meds you can take ,just avoid being bitten
