After 2 weeks holidaying in Vancouver and Fiji, we arrived last week. At the moment camping in Wellington and will be touring around in a camper for the next couple of months, while Andy continues to search for teaching jobs.

So far have applications in for Upper Hutt, Feilding, Darfield, Picton - so if anyone has any info or words of warning about any of these places, or the secondary schools in them, please let us know !

Having a great time so far though, despite the wind!

Any other teachers still looking for jobs out there?

Hi

I'm living in Feilding which is a nice little town 20 minutes drive from Palmerston North and very rural. House prices are very reasonable although they are having a boom at the moment so prices have increased recently. It has most things that you need. 3 supermarkets, decent Irish bar, nice little shops, swimming pool, library, parks and always something going on at Manfeild Park for entertainment. We had a good night there when they had a firework display on 10th November. Also it's not far to go into Palmy if you want the bright city lights, cinemas, theatre etc.

I don't have any kids so don't know about the schools - just what I read in the papers. Apparently the high school here is in trouble with the Education Authorities because they have more than the average number of excluded pupils. This, apparently, is because they take a tougher stance than most other schools and there have been letters in the paper from parents supporting the school and its record.
