So far you have done miles better than me. :nice1
My blogs usually only last for about two entries then I forget, or life is boring and nothing to write except "Got up went to work, worked, went home, herded the kids around abit, went to bed". Though with the move to NZ, wedding and hopefully new job for one of us my blog might be more interesting this year. :hopeso
Looking forward to the rest of yours and Warrens adventures in NZ.
BTW What did you think of Geraldine. It was one of the places on our list of interesting places to live until I realised it was to far from Christchurch. Main reasons for chosing it were, it has its own chocolate factory, brewery and dairy that makes cheese. What more could a girl ask for.

Well, in my opinion, Geraldine wouldn't be somewhere we'd want to live.
It's very "small town" and there isn't alot in the centre (although there was a nice antiques shop that we stopped off in after we visited the Motor Museum). Met a lady there who used to commute to Timaru from Geraldine - she said it took about an hour and many of them car-pooled.
Definitely couldn't commute to Chch from there and I, personally, wouldn't want my nearest big town to be Timaru (see my earlier post on Timaru!!).
I know what you mean re blogs... you'll notice that at first I did a post every day (and copied my old posts from here!) and then after a time it skips days and weeks. There's no way I could post each day now, but at the same time it will make sure I get out and DO things so that I do have something to write!!
Plus, there are some things I wouldn't put on the blog in case it worried my family!! For instance, am not well at the moment - bought back a "souvenir" from weekend trip in the form of nasty spots and sore throat.. I think I can safely miss those details from the blog!!!
With the move to NZ AND a wedding I am sure you could get a good blog going... there will be so much going on.. plus, blogs don't have to be factual.. they can be thoughts and emotions or just general ponderings on life :nice1

Sorry to here that you have come down with somthing nasty. Hope it clears up soon and you feel better. Is it back to the "hairy lemons". :(
Thanks for the thoughts on Geraldine. We had ruled it out because commuting is one of the things we would like to escape from. 70 miles each way at the moment. But it is nice to hear opinions from those of you who are already over there. We live in a very small village at the moment so small town life would maybe suit us, but maybe not suit our two eldest sons. Somewhere closer to Christchurch might keep us all happy, then again we could end up anywhere there are jobs. :hopeso

Aha - you mention children.. one comment Warren made as we drove through Geraldine was "jeez, the kids must be bored stupid here".. lots of groups of kids (many goths!!) hanging out on street corners.
We too were from a v. small village but we were "close" (50+ miles) to a large town (Edinburgh) which does help. Our main criteria is views and scenery - much of which you don't seem to get on the outskirts of Chch as it is on the plains and flat, which is why we are looking in the Harbourside areas (Diamond Harbour/Governors Bay/Church Bay) as they are in the "hills" and have great views and scenery.
If we could afford to live with no jobs then we would probably consider Geraldine/Tekapo way but that's a few years off yet!
If you want any info on any other areas around Chch and its outskirts just ask, I always need a good excuse to go for a drive!!

Eeeeeek I could just see my oldest two hanging around on street corners. Though they are both into fishing and outdoor stuff so maybe there would be more oppertunities for them.
Totally agree with you on scenary, one of the things we would like is a view which is not someone elses window. We used to have one until they built on the land behind our house. My ideal home would be one where I could see the hills, and see the sun rise and set.
If you ever pass through the following towns I would love to here your comments: Darfield, Oxford, West Eyreton and Rangiora. Diamond Harbour and Akora(sp?) look brilliant. But not sure if there would be work there, maybe for Peter but I think I am going to have to do the Christchurch commute thingy. Cashmere was somewhere I was interested in but Peter was brought up in the suburbs of Edinburgh at Barnton and he wants to be out of the city.
Thanks for the info so far

Timbo...that is funny..you dont know the half of it. ;)
Nic I have a mate at west eyreton (we...as in any waffs and strays off the forum are invited to his farm for xmas..he said it!)
It is nice, farm land (not the english farm land..flat no rolling hills farm land) the mts are right in front though and it is 10 mins from oxford. The school buses go through there...yay!
It is 50 mins from chch...or 50 kms.
Nice but he spends a ton on petrol and is moving closer to rangiora (and he has to drive his kids everywhere..no transport)

C`mon Moorf. Do what the Goddards did for Tauranga, for Christchurch. You are pretty much guarenteed a few sales from forum members at least.
Imagine, you could be the next Michael Palin.

Timbo is right Moorf there just aren't enough experience books around and besides even your 'forum' shorthand beats the wordsmith talents of Mr Goddard (and or ghosts). :nice1

And something else...
If by reading Kiwi's 'subtle' hint there is a project coming along perhaps we could all star in an appendix?
Incense on.
To explain; I have been intrigued by 'The Zen of the forum signature' and I think a compiled list of these enigmatic statements from travellers far and wide could add enlightenment to the weary...
Incense off.

Hmmm, how about an online book - would people go for that or do they want something in their hands?
Would also be cheaper/quicker for me (and the punters!) rather than hunt for a publisher etc....
Thanks for the encouragement guys....

Hi, Moorf:
I have written a few PDF based books using adobe acrobat. It is certainly the cheapest way to go. That way you can update the book frequently, and don't have to have 500 copies sitting in your house collecting dust. You can even have someone design a cool cover for you. It is really quite easy- just type it in word and drop into adobe acrobat. It will convert it to PDF, and will let you include links to websites etc. You set up a website, a paypal account and let people buy it from the website. Very easy and simple. Most pdf books are much shorter than your average paper book so that is a relief to the author, unless you are long winded.
Let me know if you need help, and good luck with the project. If I was further along in our journeys to NZ- I would offer to help, but I am too much of a newbie to be of much service.
