Hi all,
Just wanted to ask for some positive vibes!
We are being packed up tomorrow..... We fly out to Queenstown from the UK on Wednesday 21st Feb ........... have researched this for ...... years......have residency status all sorted... about to embark on a New Life and all that.... .
So why are we so scared /nervous/sad/ worried and basically frightened to death!
Tell me we've done the right thing.............
cheers Pete

So why are we so scared /nervous/sad/ worried and basically frightened to death!
Because it's terrifying!
But in a really really good way!!
Just hang in there, you'll be in NZ before you know it.
Stay focused on why you wanted to do this in the first place - and how amazing it will feel to step off the plane and know you finally made it!:raebanana

Hang in there - it's only natural to be nervous when it REALLY happens after years of planning - it took us so long to get PR that when the news finally came I felt just like the wind had been knocked out of me. Best of luck!

On a trapeze - you have to leave go of the first bar - to be able to fly to the next.
It's the letting go that takes most courage.
Everything is in place and you will soon be catching the next bar.
Enjoy the flight.

So why are we so scared /nervous/sad/ worried and basically frightened to death!
Probably because you are giving up the known for the unknown.....and it's a perfectly natural reaction.
I was convinced that before we made our move to NZ that I would not be home sick nor would I miss the family to the point where it hurts......:roll Oh Boy - was I wrong !!
But like I said in my Zardell Returns post, NEVER even on my most dark days did I ever believe, nor do I believe now that coming to NZ was a mistake.
Far from it - it's the best decision we ever made, even though I still get 'familiarity sick' and miss my old friends, I could not see myself going back to the UK in a hurry.
Stick with it Pete - because even though it may take a while before you start to feel comfortable in your new surroundings it will be well worth it in the end - promise.
Good luck.

Pete,
I'm right there with you! Our packers also come tomorrow and we fly on Sat to Christchurch (with a couple of days in Singapore).
Don't know if this helps, but I've been trying to de-enormify it, so yes its a long way away and yes, there's going to be a lot of change - however, - in the event of an emergency, I can get back in a little over 24 hrs. If after 2 yrs, we're not happy, then we'll find a way to come back.. Life is too short to stay somewhere if you're not happy (but we've agreed that it will take us a while to settle, so 2 yrs is a sort of mental goal for us, to feel that we gave it a fair chance, although my instict is that we won't be coming back....).
There's e-mail, texting and Skype, webcams and yes its hard to leave our friends, but I also believe there's a load of new friends waiting for us, that we just haven't met yet :yes !
p.s I recommend a great bar in Queenstown - its called Bardeaux, huge log fires, big leather sofas and if you like wine, fantastic wines by the glass! (I'm envious of you, if we could find work there, we'd live there in a shot, and are hopefully looking forward to a few long weekends down there when we get the chance)

Hi,
Just wanted to say a big thank you for all the replies I got to my earlier - "feeling unsure post".
Very kind of you all - and we will "seize the day" as they say.
Thanks again
Best Wishes

Good Luck Mate.
just to echo earlier thoughts - go for it,
Remember PMA - postive mental attitude - any problems others have been there, done it, got t-shirt.
Don't be afraid to ask for help.
all the best

I know exactly how you feel. Just booked the one way flight ticket and felt the trap door under my feet open!! Scarey!
I also have this urge to see everything "for the last time", before going over to the other side. If anyone told us 20 years ago we would be putting ourselves through this I would have said they were crazy. Best of luck and let us know how things go.
