Dear All
I was wondering whether anyone can tell me if I can sponser my OH, I was reading the New Zealand immigration website, but not very clear.
I am Australian with an aussie passport, Can I sponser him live in New Zealand?
Read something on the lines of if I could prove that my property was on it's way to NZ, and I could prove that I have accomdation out in NZ I could sponser him.
I don't know if I have read it wrong or I am barking totally up the wrong tree. :roll
Could someone please clarify, as this would make life very much easier :yes
Thanks

You'd probably be best ringing NZIS for confirmation, but I think Aussies have to be living in NZ to sponsor a partner.
You'd have to have a home with bills addressed to there - just having a motel address and a container on its way probably wouldn't be enough.
Good luck

Hiya Nashlee,
I agree with what wiki said above. Here's the link to the immigration website with the details:
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/live/partner/canimovetonz/whatisrequired/evidenceofsponsorsstatus.htm
If a sponsor
holds a valid Australian passport but does not hold a current New Zealand residence permit or a current New Zealand Returning Resident’s Visa
or
holds a New Zealand residence permit or Returning Resident’s Visa which was issued on the basis that they were a holder of an Australian Permanent Residence Visa or an Australian Resident Return Visa
they must provide evidence that New Zealand is their primary place of established residence at the time your application is made and assessed.
Examples of evidence that New Zealand is primary place of residence can include original or certified copies of:
correspondence addressed to your sponsor
employment records
records of benefit payments from the Ministry of Social Development (Department of Work and Income)
banking records
rates demands
Inland Revenue Department records
mortgage documents
tenancy and utility supply documents
documents showing that your sponsor’s household effects have been moved to New Zealand
So it looks like if you were to sponsor your partner for residency in NZ, NZ would need to be your primary place of residence.

Hi All
Thanks very much for that information, looks as if I will have to go back to original plan, and go down the longer route :(
