Hi all
Great news - my OH is coming home from NZ on Thursday with a job offer! We are really excited and will be heading for Gisborne in the New Year - probably February.
:clap :clap
I think I must be in a state of shock today, but gradually my mind is filling up with a huge list of things to be done...you know the feeling. I'm sure I will be posting loads of questions (already put two on today) but just wanted to share the news and to say if you are looking for a job and can go out there it makes all the difference - he has met so many employers who were really enthusiastic and recruiters too and the difference is just being there in person to see them - persistence pays off!
Any info on Gisborne appreciated too.

Helga,
excellent news! I did the same in October and came back with a job offer. Twin feelings of dread and excitement continue to shoot through me when I think about everything I need to sort before Jan 17!
Decide not to ship anything but the bare minimum and have suddenly got into Ebay and weekend car-boot sales!
Good luck

Ha ha - yes, you could spend an entire lifetime sorting out your possessions coulnd't you??? You've got your work cut out for the 17th Jan though - best of luck - can't you just pack everything up for posting, put in on ebay and leave it in a mate's spare room for them to post?????!! :clap

Hi Rimbo
I've got loads of advice on this - pm me and let me know what line of work you are in - my OH spent 3 to 4 weeks networking hard before he went out and got 80 contacts wanting to see him - had an average of 3 meetings a day and got quite a few offers so far - it CAN be done :nice1

Re: Gisborne.
Guess you'll fly down from Auckland, so if you want a rental straight away get in touch with Rent a Dent. They are based in town around by the harbour (Gary Bates Motors) but will drop off at the local airport (hut). And there were a couple of nice bar/cafes at the harbour too.
For example I have booked a car for pick up on a Sunday when we arrive in Jan and Edith the local Rep is popping round to the airport with the car because she lives around the corner. How cool is that, and she remembers us from 18 months ago!! :clap
For R&R drive out towards Wairoa for around twenty minutes and you will find the Morere Hot Springs. Some natural thermal pools, plunge pools, forest walks and private covered pools where you can bathe naked and look out into the jungle. There is no better way to lose the jet lag! :nice1
Cheers CC :cool

Captain Christmas - thank you! What a mine of information - that is great and the springs sound fab. We'll check it all out....
Ted - Accredited Employers list - companies that have "licence" I suppose you might call it to employ migrants as they can't get the skills they require in NZ (correct me if I'm off the mark here anyone) - it's a huge list and it's on the NZIS web site - EAU Accredited Employers - don't know what the link is though - sorry. Basically if you get an offer from one of these companies it is mightily helpful and speeds things up greatly.
Hope that helps.
