Hi all,
I know the cost of books can be very high here, but had an eye-opening afternoon yesterday with one of the mums from Franca's school.
1. You probably all know and take advantage of the Whitcoulls 50% off sale, but I was not aware of it.
2. The other and even better bit was that she took me to the Lucky Bookshop in Lady Ruby Drive (or Avenue?) in East Tamaki. It's connected to the Scholastic publishers and is FILLED with children's books from $1 to $15. We got some real bargains, both fiction and reference/factual for our three who are at College, Intermediate and Primary respectively. (I.e. they cover all school ages) A useful tip is that they are next door to the Scholastic warehouse and 3-4 times a year, usually approx 2 weeks before the school hols, they open the warehouse and sell off everything at half price. Scholastic's website is http://www.scholastic.co.nz/
I spent $69.50 and got 15 books for our three! Things like:
Midnight for Charlie Bone (first in a fab sereis of adventure stories for boys)
Science Is... (covers stuff for 6-14 year olds)
Terry Deary's Terribly True Disaster Stories
Elvie the Mist Fairy and
Can't remember the title, a history of New Zealand exploring the impact of the two World Wars here, it's part of a set, but will go and see if they have the rest another time.
They have baby books right through to those that will help with college work, great place to check out if you have kids.
