O.K. - not sure about this, but here are a few observations about approaching the fateful day.
1. Everything is a mess - we'll never fit all this in the container.
2. Everything takes on panic like qualities e.g. "Where is the x blah blah blah?" (usually found under a box - see point 1
3. Days are actually only 6 hours long
4. Weeks consist of 4, 6 hour days
5. Children still don't understand the concept of tidiness when it comes to clothing
6. Your heart sounds like something from the Edinburgh military tatoo
7. You actually find yourself shaking
8. Family try their utmost to not help
9. Anything bad that can happen, will. e.g. water leak last night soaked the landing ceiling!!! panic stations at 10.30pm cue spanners and wrenches, lots of towels and paper and frantic climbing of ladders in a drunken state - not good :(
10. Sleep is fitful, too short (actually only 3 hours) before the next 6 hour day begins in this 4 day week. :wah
As you can tell, this is a light hearted look at things, but it is a bit like my life at the moment. Need I go on any more? They're coming to take me away ha har..... off to the refuse tip before I go loopy ;)

Stevie, all of us over in NZ can relate to pretty much every word of that, you will get on that plane, the stuff will fit in the container, and no kids understand the word "tidy". Hey, have a "dont mind if it does not make it" pile just in case container is full, and see if you can get a family member to store it for a bit, mind you if they are not feeling helpful it could be tricky!
On another note, the family lack of helpfulness is a sign of how much they are going to miss you and resisting your departure with all they have!

6 hour days? 3 hours sleep? ... using my fingers and thumbs to add up tells me you actually have 29 of these "short" days to go rather than 12 - so no panicky! you've really got a month :)
But seriously, keep your mind focused on the prize. The stress and hard work now will be worth it for the gift you've been waiting to give your family and yourself.

Hey Steve (AND Jan) I am sure that once you sit on the plane you can shut your eyes and try to sleep (I do not promise you will get any:laugh ) I remember those last days, and yes you will have your head spinning many a time.
You have worked hard to get to this point - focus on that goal and try and relax;) :raebanana
All the best for the final countdown:nice1

Steve,
they can do miracles with fitting stuff in containers! Once everything was wrapped, I was on the phone to John Masons going "its never going to fit". But of course it did.. I think the people who do the estimates really know their stuff, and it took up exactly the amount of space that they said it would - even though I had sneaked in a few extra bits and pieces.
And absolutely, both Stu and I have had minor panic attacks, - but at the end of the day - there's always a plan B! nothing is insurmountable!.. and it will of course be all worth it! (or So I keep telling myself!)
now.. deep breath and you'll be just fine!

:laugh Thanks guys!! It's amazing what support this forum gives, and I know we will be o.k. It is just so frustrating, every time you think you have it sorted, you find something else! Still the loft is almost done, only junk and a few bits up there so the junk will disappear to the tip. The hardest is not being able to move with all the stuff cluttering the place. Ah well, everyone else has to do it.

Stevie, you brought it all flooding back, including the water leak (pun intended! :laugh) Sal is right, everyone this side will relate to what you're experiencing at the moment and we can't wait for you to experience this side :D Keep breathing and you'll be here before you know it ;)
All the best,

After having IM conversations with you most days Stevie and trying to help you through your woes with words of experienced wisdom (yeah right), I'm delighted to see that you've decided to see the funny side of everything.
Like those above have said, we all remember the situation you are in, and once you actually walk through those departure gates it'll all suddenly seem very worth it.
Who knows whether you'll love it here or not, but the experience of actually giving it a go and finding out for yourselves will mean all this hassle is worth it.
Hang in there dude - see you soon...... the kayaks and quad bike await your arrival !!!!

Just gotta "rattle my dags" and get all this sorting out finished :laugh
I think you have to have a light hearted look at it all, otherwise you'll tip over the edge. Yesterday was the first time for ages that alcohol entered the equation, didn't solve the problem but certainly blanked out some of the unpleasantness!
Thanks to all.

Yes, you're right when you say 'everyone else had to do it', but that doesn't help when it's YOU that's doing it does it love ?
Anyway, the good thing is (as you know) you will get through it and coming out the other side is truly worth it - pun definitely intended !
Pity you're not coming to live in our neck of the woods - sounds like you could do with a housekeeper !...........LOL

We know exactly how you feel at the moment, it's really stressful. Have not even had time to log in and have a chat to you guys. Poor show I know :no
Our house is like a tip too; I'm just stunned at how much rubbish we have accumulated. We even got told off by the men at the tip last week, they had clocked us 3 times with a car full, apparently you are only allowed 10 bin bags per week, we had much more than that. Rich hid while I did my natural dumb blonde thing, luckily they let us empty the last load...phew:p
I know it will all come together in the end.

Stevie and Jan,
Loved the list Stevie, its one I'm sure most people on here who are in NZ can relate to - us too with the water leak - remember the flippin boiler man trying to get into the cellar the same day as the packers were in there - chaos!!!
At the moment it will seem impossible that you will get through this, but believe me you will, and come out the other side smiling if I know you two well!! The memories of the bad bits will fade too, just like the pain of child birth LOL:laugh
Chin up guys, it will all come good in the end, and you know everyone is waiting to welcome you with open arms and big hugs when you eventually get here!
Lots of love to you, big hugs, boxes of tissues, extra helping hands (well in spirit anyway,) your turn has come!!! :clap

In the words of a certain scouse phrase.............CALM DOWN,CALM DOWN!!!!!:laugh As Elaine said in the PM "remember us with a week to go being told by our solicitor to find another buyer, cos it ain't gonna happen". These little things are a test of our sanity.
See ya this side soon bud.
