I've been a bellydancer for about 5 years now, so...do we have any other dancers on the forum? :D

Or, even if you're not a dancer, have you noticed any bellydancing in NZ? I know there is a small community over there, but I want to find out more :nice1

Not the sort of place you'd expect to see it I would imagine. But I guess there are people the world over who use it as a form of exercise.

My belly dances when I run at the moment but that the nearest I'll get LOL

I think somewhere in the Wairarapa there are belly dancing classes, it may even be Featherston as they appeared in the Christmas Parade.

Of all places it was the entertainment for last year's playcentre AGM :D

Yes! Two of the ladies that work at the garage go bellydancing in Christchurch! Not sure where in Chch, but they've both just overcome their fears of dancing in public by taking part in a demonstration evening in their new costumes and were both buzzing the next day!

I took belly dancing classes a looooong time ago, and sometimes at Renaissance Fairs I dance with the bellydance troops after a few horns of Mead, after hours;) I mentioned my friend in Taupo drumming for the dancers, but I haven't heard of any other places.

Juniper - I've asked, and my colleague went to a place in Titrangi which is in west Auckland. She raves about it and is now trying to convince me to go...

I dont know if this is any help, but I was in Welly today and popped into a shop called Ideja on Cuba Mall. Sells Yoga type clothes and buddahs etc.

Well, turns out they are opening a belly dance studio!

All beginners classes to start with. If anyone else is interested the times are:

Tues 6.15-7.15 pm
Wed 11.30 - 12.30
Thurs 7-8pm
Sat 11-12pm

$15 per class or $12 if you sign up for a course.

Since I have been little. I am Turkish so been brought up with the music and and danced whenever I could. It is so easy for me :D

That's so cool! I take Turkish style classes when the opportunity comes around, but you mostly see Egyptian-inspired stuff around here. Plus all the American Tribal stylings ;-)

Well I also saw a studio recently in cuba street in Wellingto for belly dancing....Juniper if you want i put the belly(have plenty here believe me!) and u the dancing and we open our own studio here, hahahaha! Just kidding!
