NZQA Full Assessment??

We know our application form was received on the 12th February and the money has been taken from our account, but I have received absolutely nothing (email or otherwise) to confirm they are dealing with it, or processing it etc.
When you applied did you receive any notification from them before they finish the assessment?
Thanks.

Hi
No we didnt receive anything and it said on the paperwork we filled in not to ring them but we got fed up and rang them anyway and they were very good . they told me one of the colleges had not replied and they had had to keep contacting them and chasing them for info hence the delay.I,m sure they told me by e mail too when they finally got the info and a few days later i got a folder from them with all the goodies in. Your probably having the same problem someone in the country you did your studies not answering quick enough

Hey Twig,
We had a very similar experience to Cardy. The process took a little over 2 months to complete. You will find that NZQA agents can discuss what is holding back your application, but they will not tell you the final assessment over the phone.
Cheers,
Mark.

Ours went off last week and the tracker from the Royal Maill web site says it is in the care of the NZ mail system but I am not expecting anything for at least a month. If it gets towards the end of March and I haven't heard anything I may phone or e mail

Thanks Mark, I've heard from a couple of other people it could take about 3 months, so I don't think I should start panicking just yet.
I have emailed them but have not received a reply as yet.
This forum must be full of very patient people :)

Dealing with NZQA was by far the most frustrating aspect of the whole emigration process.
The NZQA office has little concept of time or urgency. If qualifications need to be verified (just pray that they don't) they send a message to the institution who issued the qualification and then sit back and wait for the reply. If the request for verification is misdirected or gets stuck in the bottom of someone's in-tray then NOTHING happens until months later when NZQA sends a reminder to the institution. In the meantime you are not allowed to do anything to chase things up. AAAGGHH!!!

to make things worse we had to pay £10 to the university for then to send us a course transcript. They then replied that they had no transcripts as it was too long since the course. We have sent of our application to NZQA who will probably contact uni and they will ask for £10 again in order to confirm that we attended, all part of the data protection act.

Agreed. I've never felt so impotent in the face of mindless bureaucracy in my life - and I'm a school teacher!

"mindless bureaucracy". My feelings exactly. Very good choice of words. Thanks and good luck to you all.

but if it keeps mindless hooligans or spongers out of the country it can only be a good thing. although I would feel better if I was on the otherside of the application process

Our NZQAs were received in the first week of January, and the money came out a few days later. It was about 10 days ago that I received a letter saying my documents were on their way back. Those came a few days later. John's was about a week behind mine. His documents came back just today. Now we wait to see if we need to send money somewhere.
On the other end, our good friend sent his off in early October and had is full report back by early to mid-November. Must have been a slow time.

Hi all, We're in the same position. OH sent qualifications off on 20 Frebruary and we really don't expect to hear anything until April. I just hope it doesn't take any longer than that! It's frustrating though when we know that this is only the first in a long line of paperwork and red tape. Hope everything goes well for all of you, I'll be watching this thread with interest!:)

My application was received by NZQA 16 March and I haven't received a confirming email yet. I emailed them today but after re-reading this thread, I have little hope of getting a status update.

I got my original docs back today, along with a letter reminding me of the process, etc. I sent them my info a month ago. At least I got some reaction from them, but it's no reassurance that I paid for fast track when they only do so much to track down proof of info we send...very frustrating. I can't reg. with Teachers Council until I get this, too...and my ITA is at INZ London waiting...waiting...waiting.....

Phoned last night to be told that they hadn't even looked at it yet and it hadn't been passed to an evaluator.
If you need to phone and are worried about the cost, use telediscount, all you do is put 0844 462 95 95 before the international number and the calls get charged at 2p per min

Latest news on our assessment.
Having spoken to the very helpful Peter who used to play football just down the road from us in Warrington. Our assessment has been bumped up - who says it doesn't pay to phone regularly and ask for an update; One of the colleges was faxed on 10th of April for information and they were still awaiting a response. Hope to have something by next week and we should phone again then. We were told that we should not contact the colleges who have now had the fax for 2 weeks and not done anything with it so hopefully better news last week but at least things are moving.
Started filling in the teachers registration form but have now left it to OH as some of the qs were too hard for me. All other docs for teachers registration ready to go once we get feedback from nzqa.
OH resignation letter ready to be typed as needs to be in before half term.

The NZQA assessment is easy compared with trying to register with the NZ Teachers Council! If you have to do this aswell, my advise is to get onto all the schools you have worked in over the last 5 years at least, and get detailed references on headed paper( there's a long list of topics which must be addressed on the TC2 form at www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz). It's not a foregone conclusion that you will qualify for any sort of registration, even if you are a UK qualified teacher.

Sorry to hear about problems you have had John. OH has a B Ed from recognised institute but they were unable to provide a course transcript. I presume that is the current delay with nzqa assessment.
OH has been at current school for well over 5 years as already has letter from head stating job roles etc. Has problems contact previous schools / heads. 1 school no longer exists and 1 head has long since retired to drive buses.

All this is scaring me !
OK, a few questions for Speckythecky as you are ahead of me: for work experience did you get that from your contracts from the County Council as well as from each school worked in? My problem is I've done lots of supply work over the years, sometimes only 1 day in a school, do I need to contact them? Surely not....can the County Council just indicate I was on the payroll for those months?
Also I've had 3 gaps for maternity leave, do I need to provide every letter /contract with dates of each period of leave and return date....Advise please on how to proceed.
Do hope you hear good news soon; when we were there last week, lots of jobs in local papers but you ahve to be there to get them. In rural areas, eg Northland they are desperate for staff including relief staff, but you would need to think carefully, do research about, whether you are happy to put your own kids in same system.

OH's work experience has only been at 3 schools with 2 breaks for maternity but these were within continuous employment at the schools. Evidence of work experience is all in one letter from current head as she has worked at current school for more than 5 years - Letter states evidence of previous positions in previous schools.
Section D of the TC1 form from nz teaching council: http://www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz/pdf/tc1webform.pdf
ask for a list of all teaching service with the exception of that completed during teacher education (teaching practice).
It says to include both short term / temporary (e.g. day reliever) and long term / permanent and the form has space for you to identify which.
How to give evidence of this is not stated but the more you can provide that better so if you can get evidence from local authority or from any agency or the schools themselves it would be an advantage

I had the same problem with Cardy - I ended up ringing as they didn't reply to the emails - I then had to chase the info needed from the Awarding body - I ended up having to pay the UK Awarding body to search their old storage files (I am sure that Education facilities have to keep some records for 25 years if I remember rightly - which is why I still got my CSE certificates - they were still on site at my old school when I started work in the Office:o I had vowed never to step foot in the place - but ended up working there 20yrs later!)
Good luck

Just to update you all. I emailed my evaluator a few days ago to be told someone else was handling it. I then emailed them and they told me they were only covering the original evaluator because they were on leave, now they're back, it's their responsibility. But he did say that he completed the assessment on 27th April. Not sure what 'completed' means so I've emailed the first guy to, hopefully, get an answer.
One thing though, they have been very quick in answering my emails which is something I didn't expect.

We phoned last night but only got answer phones, tried 3 different numbers and tried throughout the night, 11pm , 2am and 5am. As you can guess I didn't get much sleep last night, will try again tonight and if no sucess with that then will e mail the evaluator directly

Spoke to evaluator last night, he has not had a response from uni yet. It was sent 3 weeks ago (on easter monday) so probably got lost. We asked him to send again. Just got e mail from him saying he has been unable to get fax to send (wonder if that happened last time) and would try all day but if that failed he would send letter by fast post on way out of door.
Hopefully more news this time next week.:uhoh
