Sorry to jumb on your post but thought if IT guys were reading add to the list.
My OH company are desperately looking for Powerbuilder & Sybase developers, old versions as well, based in Auckland. Contract 6 months but they have said they have work for 18 months for him. He has just extended his contact. Also doing the same role, he has not touched either product for 6 years !!!
PM for more details.

Too early. TOO EARLY!
You have to wait until I'm over there first!
:laugh
That's what I'm doing right now, but I'm hoping to get a guaranteed gubmint job working with a modern and specialized variant of Pascal with a department that really needs my expertise and experience. Not that this would be my first choice, but it would put me in the running for top dog when I hit the ground running.

Ok, my turn to hijack the thread. :laugh If you're writing WPF apps and are already based in NZ (I'm in the Waikato region), please do drop me a PM. Nothing concrete yet, but we'll likely have to staff up. Unfortunately, it's doubtful that my employer will be able to sponsor you for a permit/visa.

Typical, the bloke sitting 3ft away from me at present writes our ERP Software in Powerbuilder and he's poking fun at me right now! We're switching from Powerbuilder 6 to 10 at present! I merely write Crystal Reports and support the software.
As far as .Net/VB goes, I haven't touched it since college.
As far as WPF goes, it's far too posh!
..anybody else able to hijack this thread with a job more suited to myself? :) ...Seriously, a big thank you for listing these opportunities.

And here I am, right in the middle of getting my Domino Administrator accreditation. Not much call for that it seems, but that's what I'll be doing for the next year.
It's great to see these messages coming up though - keep them coming!
Edited for cr*p spelling.

Hmmmmmm. Windows Presentation Foundation.
No, not yet. However, I have a Universal MSDN license and can download any/all of the Microsoft software available ... so I could certainly learn it in a jiffy.
;)
You know ... if you really needed it.
I've been testing Vista and Office 2007 for about 6 months now and went to the release presentation and workshop seminars for developers. It's a huge and brave, new world for software developers with the introduction of XAML based software.
OKAY, EVERYONE WAKE UP NOW! I'm sure that last paragraph put you all to sleep. :p

Get on it! ;)
It's actually got a fairly steep learning curve (imho), but if you're up to it, learn about xaml, data binding/triggers, animations, and how to effectively use Expression/Blend. Blend skills are important because a big part of WPF development seems to be playing the support role for the artists/designers, who aren't always technically savvy as we'd like them to be.
But as I said before, it's doubtful that I'll be able to get you a visa/permit, so not sure how useful it'll be for your situation. But hey, at least I'd have someone else to talk to about this stuff on this island :laugh I have been looking around a bit and I don't see any NZ companies are looking at WPF yet. For application development on MS' platform, it's definitely the future though.

Question re if and when a company can help/sponsor. My company had never taken on a immigrant before and just filled out the paperwork and I got my work permit. Does it just effect getting your PR? if they are not a registered company with immigrations?? confused as to who and who not you can work for.

Companies can register and pay a 'nice' fee to immigration to become accredited employers. This allows them to employ overseas staff without having to prove that equally qualified people in NZ are not available to do the job.
Any company can apply to immigration to employ someone and as long as your employment is legal, there is no difference if your employer was an Accredited Employer or not.
