Just trying to decide which coats to bring :laugh:laugh I know, I know, depends where you are etc. but just want to get a rough idea what to pack.

Any guidance, as always, would be greatfully received.

Yours blearyeyed.... Steve

Thank you, so the big all weather coat goes down the pecking order laugh

Seriously, I am just cosidering bringing a fleece and a windproof outer type, lightweight jacket. Hope this will suffice. Don't expect we will be going skiing or sledding in the first few weeks LOL

Coats.... hmm, we brought some and have not yet worn any of them EXCEPT to accompany Franca to her ice-skating lessons. (Seriously!) It's a bit of a quick change/strip act, as you emerge from the frozen wastes of Paradice, Botany into the glaring heat of an Auckland summer :D

Mind you, I have had to put a sweatshirt on to walk Olive on the beach at 06.15 this week....

Gil

PS Steve, I find your new avatar REALLY scary! Please can you change it!! Pretty please!

Stevie - I think you'll find that a fleece/waterproof jacket will do you fine. The best bet over here is to put on plenty of layers, the weather can change dramatically in the space of a couple of hours (or less).

That's got the outside temps covered. For inside temps you'll need duck down filled puffa jackets with zip-in thermal linings and waterproof outer.

Stevie there really is no set type of clothes at any time of year here... I have been known to wear tshirts to walk the dog in the middle of winter on a nice day....

Layers are the best approach, just make sure one of them is waterproof! You can just put jumpers underneath if you get cold. But you wont need anything really heavy winter at all (well not in Auckland), I have a gorgeous long wool coat, not been worn for two years!)

I reckon jeans/cardis/jumpers/tshirts and a light cagoule kind of thing should do for a while, as it does not get that cold until about May. Oh and bring your shorts cos is still quite warm....

Not much help are we....

Diny, your forgetting we have that thing called underfloor heating and a snip at 1k a month heating bill. Folks come here rather than flipping off to Fiji for a 2 week holiday in winter. The Dolans are gonna be as snug as a bug in a rug;) Thats what they think so they'd better bring their puffa jackets:laugh

Well thank you Mr Brierley!! Here's us thinking we could sit in our Hawaiian shirts and chew the cud on webcam to the folks back home. Guess the heating bills have come down a bit now you wearing fleeces too!! :laugh

Thanks guys, I think we'll just pile a load of stuff in, hope for the best. Best bet we'll end up living in the same old stuff for weeks on end anyway ha!
