Hi again - I've just posted on the introductions forum but just wanted to ask if anyone knows where I can find a points calculator? I'd like to see if there is any hope for us! The only one I've been able to find is linked to a consultant site so I think its rigged to say that we qualify even if we don't. If anyone could also please let me know if South Africans can also come to NZ on a working holiday visa? On the emigration site it seems to have a few countries but not us:wah

Hi
Just a quickie on a similar subject...don't mean to hijack he thread - sorry.
Using the above link gives an indication of points, but if you use the NZIS rules for points and bonus points (seperate page) then you can gain more points.
IE - job outside Auckland should gain 10 points, but the indicator did not add any, it only seems to add one lot of bonus points.
How did anyone calculate their points when sending their EOI?
Use the indicator or calculate themselves?
Thanks

Thanks so much - both links worked really well! Our points are not quite up to scratch (mostly because I can't figure out what to put for my husband's job at the moment) but not giving up hope just yet!

if you say you have a job offer and nothing else it gives you 50 points. if you say you have a job offer and its outside auckland it gives you 60 points - seems to be working fine to me?
the points indicator has some internal checks to make sure the info youve filled in is consistent - so for example it wont give you points for work in a cluster unless you've also indicated you've got a job or a job offer. so overall i'd say the indicator is the best place to determine your points.
when it comes to filling in your EOI then if you do it online it calculates your points for you as you go through (make sure you've filled out ALL the relevent info or it may not give you all your points though!)

OK Thanks Trigirl.
Just want to get as much info as possible before sending in the form - hopefully in 2 months when I finish the HND for points.

Sorry, I didn't explain properly. I 'will' have 115 points in 2 months and I am just trying to see the best way to to get any bonuses - including going on a visitors visa and getting a job (hence job outside Auckland).
I am only hopeful of getting picked with no job offer (unlikely I know), just looking at all options as I'm sure evryone does time and time again - might start a thread on this - how many times does anyone doubt their 'plan' and check it over and over again? Just a thought.
Thanks for the help

oh i see. (and i think we all doubt our plans during this process - and probably our sanity!)
if you are going to have 115 points in 2 months time without a job offer (and i agree by the way your chances of getting selected at that point are still quite low) then getting a job offer anywhere in NZ will give you so many points that bonus points for it being outside auckland will be irrelevant!

I thought it had to be skilled work.
My points are from HND, work experience, age and sister in NZ. My job is sales based and therefore not skilled unless I can convince a firm that I can be a sales manager in a market I don't yet know. I hope that (if we don't miraculously get through the EOI stage) we may all move (3 young kids and OH), get any job and gain 10 extra points.
Hmmm. Like I said, always double guessing. Will have to wait, apply and learn how to pray.

it does have to be skilled work. if its not skilled work then i'm afraid you dont get the extra 10 points either. from the operations manual...Current skilled employment or an offer of skilled employment outside the Auckland region qualifes for ten points.
sorry - i know thats not a lot of help.

Oh. Like I said, check and double check again...
I thought I read somewhere else that any employment outside Auckland would count... double check time again - still that is a way off yet.
Do the chances of getting selected improve with 115 points and a job in NZ?
I really need to get the operations manual as well I think.

the operations manual is really useful. you can find it online here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/nzis/operations_manual/index.htm
it covers all operations for NZIS so for the bit you need you'll need to go to residence then skilled migrant.
there's a downloadable version here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/general/generalinformation/operationsmanual/
a job offer wont increase your chances of being selected unless it is skilled. but - there were a few draws last year where people with 115 points and no job got selected. remember you stay in the pool for 6 months and it only takes 1 draw. here's one example from 11th October

Hi Rusty!
My husband and I was same as you, didn't have enough points because my husband had no qualifications!! So we managed get extra points by having sister in NZ already, I got a degree, more points!!, years of experiences in motor areas by provide a pile of letters from old empolyers, we also aims at skilled short job title of panel beater (then he end up in different job title when we got here!), we picked chch as away from auckland and also he had job offer when we hand in EOI, more points... hth

Trigirl, thanks for more info - a little gentle reading.
I think I saw a selection in August as well. Anyway we are applying over NZ winter in the hope it will be quieter.
Also, there was a section in the draw for 115 pts and a job offer - I presume skilled?
NippaPippa, Hope I can follow your example, ChCh is where we want to be.

yes a skilled job offer basically guarantees you selection from every draw.

I knew I'd seen this somewhere - this is from the self assesment guide issued by NZIS. Am I just being hopeful, or does this say I can claim 10 points IF I had a job outside Auckland. It is in a seperate section to Skilled?
Skilled employment:
• Current skilled employment in New Zealand for 12 months or more 60
• Offer of skilled employment in New Zealand or current employment in New Zealand for less than 12 months 50
Bonus points for employment or offer of employment in:
• An identified future growth area or cluster 5
• An area of absolute skills shortage 10
• Region outside Auckland 10
• Partner employment or offer of employment 10

it still means skilled. if you want to come in as a skilled migrant then all points relating to employment must relate to skilled work (there is a minor exception for general work experience which may not have to be skilled provided it relates to your recognised qualification)
the operations manual basically tells you how all these things are applied. its the reference tool that case officers use when deciding applications.

I could begin to not like this -
I will find more points - just not sure how yet. Someday I will post the I'm here message and get the bananas.
Thanks for the help though
