Hello, all!
We are two students from Finland and are currently about a year or so (hopefully! :) ) from getting our master's degrees in the IT area. We've been excited about the chance to come over to NZ for a working holiday or similar break after studies. It would also give the chance to look around and see how life is over there, as we've played with the idea of immigration a little.
What we've been planning is that I, as Finnish citizen, could apply for the working holiday visa while my wife who is Russian (and there's no WH program for Russians, right?) would join me just for holiday making. Since there should be no big constraints, like a job or a house being left behind, we have actually nothing against staying for a longer time if the opportunity presents itself. A few questions though:
If I'm on a WH visa and turns out I can find a more or less permanent job in my field, is it possible to apply and get a working permit? (or what should it be then?)
Is finding a job on this basis even a remotely realistic idea? I do have about two years' worth of part-time working experience (plus summer jobs) on the field, but that's about it.
All advice would be greatly appreciated!
