From the sounds of it, you can enter NZ on a visitor visa, then "accidentally" get a job, at which time you apply for a work permit or PR? Is this true? They won't throw you out on your rear end? Even if you are American?

Yep, that's right... come in on visitors visa... then start searching for work.... once you have a job offer go to the immigration office nearest to you. They will give you a form to fill in, plus a form to take to your employers to fill in.. you then return with both forms completed and they give you a visa!

Just another thing to consider.

Don't let on to immigration in New Zealand that your looking for work as you are going on a tourist visa, and therefore all you should be doing is looking at the views and not looking at situations vacent!

I don't know if anyone's been turned away because of the copy CV's in their bags - maybe somewone has a bad news story?

Cheers

Dead right, Hopefully :hopeso
I will be landing in AKL on 1st Feb for one month looking for work.
I need a job offer before i can submit EOI. So that's my aim.
Jon seems to be correct. Some stories on this forum point out that you should enter NZ without any job references or adverts. Have names and addresses of places / people you will be visiting / staying. I will have nothing on paper as i will be taking my Laptop, therfore all my contacts are secured on PC and CD.
As far as immigration are concerned i will be picking up my hire car and traveling around the country as a backpaker.
