migratory birds

We've recently been approved to immigrate (Permanant Residency/Skilled Migrant) with move date by May 2008.
After 5 yrs in NZ when the parent/s are eligible for citizenship - are their kids also eligible to become citizens at that time?? Or is there a special application process they need to go thru once they become adults?
I assumed they were automatically eligible for citizenship if they were minors when their parents became citizens...until we had dinner with friends last nite. Anooj grew up in Toronto (his parents had immigrated to Canada from the US) BUT when his parents were eligible to become citizens he was not until he could apply for himself after 18 yrs of age.

Do you have children already? If children are included in a PR application and granted PR too then I would have thought they would have the same rights to NZ citizenship after 5 years in their own right. - Hmm re read your post and I'm not too sure about this - would seem reasonable for children to have to be old enough to go through citizenship ceremony themselves....must engage brain before typing
I'm more sure of this part...
If not, it is my understanding that children born in New Zealand with at least one parent which has PR or NZ citizenship is entitled to NZ citizenship from birth.
I have no personal experience of this but from reading this and other forum that is the way I understand it.
I hope that helps (and that I'm correct)

from the DIA website Other Requirements for Applicants Aged Under 16
If you are under 16 during the processing of your New Zealand citizenship application and your parent(s) are New Zealand citizens or have applied and are able to fulfil the requirements for a grant of New Zealand citizenship, you may not have to meet the ordinary residence requirement.
Consent to apply
Applicants under 16 need the consent of their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) to apply. If the consent of only one parent is available please contact us.
Applicants under 14 years old are not required to meet the English, character and knowledge requirements.
Successful applicants, over 14 years old must attend a public citizenship ceremony where they take the oath or affirmation of allegiance. Successful applicants under 14 may attend a ceremony if they wish.
so yes it sounds as though children get citizenship at the same time as parents
