This may seem like a really dim question but here goes .....!
I burnt a couple of Cd's to send to my brother from my I tunes, but for some reason he said that half the songs wouldnt play when he went to listen to them.....maybe I just didn't do it right although I have no problems burning discs here to listen to in my car
What I was wondering was, if I send a disc over from a camcorder, will it play on a UK dvd player - or would it have to be a multizone dvd player as obviously we are a different Zone in Kiwiland ?
Does anyone have problems with this at all ???

I found this out too. Its due to zone's i think. I downloaded to the DVD, and CD disc, popped it into the UK player and result= zilch. Then into the NZ player and result= yes it worked. What i am doing is getting the disc's sent across from UK and taking it from there. Have tried other ways but still without result.

We use our camcorder to record DVD's via our HDD DVD player (NZ region) - however, DVD's that we burn work in the UK and the same the other way round when my parents record camcorder things via their HDD DVD. I think the DVD's you burn to aren't set to any region so you should be right.

Kim, you say yours don't work ? but Sarah says they do .. ??
Can you maybe buy discs over here that are multizone, then I can burn it here and will then work in UK ?

As far as I know, AUDIO CDs (burned in standard red book PCM format) do not have a restricted zone like DVD movies do. The problem could be if you are making a mixed MP3/WMA data disc. Most players today only play MP3. Even more rare to find a player that can do all MP3, WMA, and Apple's audio format, etc. Though there are store bought audio cds that do have copy protections that make it difficult for many cd players to read them, that is different than burning your own CDs.

This all depends on what software you use to "AUTHOR" the DVD? Luckily both NZ and UK use the PAL system for tv video. When you author the DVD, your best bet is to leave the 'region code' out or set to 0 = playable by any zone (no region code). That way any DVD unit worldwide should be able to play it.

Thanks, Super_BQ. I was about to clarify that one myself.
Redbook audio is the standard. MP3 is the second favourite, followed closely by WMA and AAC. You have to check the player to know what will play where. I go one step further and encode all my audio in OGG because I don't like to use any kind of proprietary codecs.
Luckily, all the DVDs I make have the region codes stripped out, thus are region free. For more information on how to do this, please send me a PM.
