Hi!
We are heading back to the UK in August for most likely a year and are wondering what to do with our house here in NZ.We could rent it but all rentals seem to be unfurnished in NZ, so we have a problem with what we do with our furniture without spending huge amounts on storage. I have been thinking of trying to arrange a long term house swap as we have done it before for holidays and it has always been a success but don't know where to start looking. Has anyone been in a similar situation and got any solutions?!
Thanks!

In the Bay of Plenty I think.
(I'm not a stalker btw:uhoh , I just seached for other posts by Fizz as I wondered if maybe we could swap with each other...But it's a bit too far from Welly, which is where we are heading off too...)

Have you considered renting out to new immigrants who are looking for short term accomodation until they get rented and their furniture arrives?
You could maybe do it through an agent. It would be no different that renting it out like a holiday home.
Just a thought. If you have enough bedrooms you could put your personal stuff in one room and have it padlocked.
There are web based agencies for bach rentals.
Certainly friends of mine needed furnished when they arrived as they have rented out there house in Brazil. So some people do want rented.

Yes! We are in Tauranga and are heading back to Hampshire for probably a year. It would be just so easy to swap houses for a year and leave everything in place here in NZ.....I can't begin to imagine the cost of storage! Anyone heard of a furnished rental in NZ?!

I have viewed furnished in Wellington and seen others advertised.

Hi!
Had thought of making it a holiday let as we are in a lovely spot! Just not sure how regular and reliable the income would be as we would then have to rent back in the UK too! Will have to investigate some holiday letting agencies and see.
Normal letting agents just don't seem to like furnished rentals...maybe it is too much hastle to keep checking that the house and it's contents are being looked after. Not sure.
