I really like the looks of the Holden Crewman. Sort of like the old Chevrolet El Camino or the Ford Ranchero. I'm seeing a few for sale on used lots online and the prices look pretty good.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with them. I'm looking at the V6 automatics if that matters.

Also, I'm 185 cm tall while the Dragonlady is only about 160 cm. I know that there isn't much in the way of room in the back seats.

You see, we have a Saturn station wagon right now and while we can carry quite a considerable amount, we are somewhat limited in size. It'd be nice to be able to move larger items around, especially if we were headed out to a weekend art show, used furniture, a decent amount of beer ... you get the idea.

I have no experience with these kinds of vehicles. In fact, I really don't see the purprose? Half car and half full size pick-up? Limited ground clearance and light duty chassis... it was clear why the El Camino or Ranchero didn't last long in production in America.

Much like how Australia still races 4 door sedans in the Bathurst race circuit... 4 doors in a race car???

Perhaps a minivan would be more suitable if you want to carry stuff?

Best of both worlds?

BQ, I have often wondered why people buy half truck and half car. As Gil says, perhaps it is because they like to get a "2 for the price of one" deal. I agree with you though, I would not want to pay an arm and a leg for something in this genre..And they do seem to cost a ton here, not sure how they fare down your way.

My reasoning is as follows:

We are only 2, so we don't have to worry about filling the back seat with kids and only occasionally with other adults. Going to the store will usually net only enough groceries to put in the back seat.

However, when we go out to do an art show, I've had the rare problem of the rear of our station wagon being a titch height-restrictive. Plus, we might want to move some furniture or other stuff and having the open bed would be a plus.

I don't think the Dragonlady would be keen on driving something the size of a mini-van or full-size truck.

The version I'm looking at doesn't have all the fancy ground-effects and spoilers and such. It's the base model, not the SS variant and is not quite so ground hugging. I've seen used ones at fairly reasonable discounts.

Of course, my SO isn't aware of my choice yet ... but she is a nut for the old El Camino and would probably like this as well. ;)
