Dear Old Timbo
I don't know about you as we are new to the Forum but have enjoyed reading the posts.. My OH EOI was selected 31 Jan. He is an Electrician and I would like to ask you if they are needed where you are? After lots of research we were initially interested in Tauranga/Hamilton area. Please could you also help allay our fears that we could manage on the average Electrician salaries. My Husband is rather worried that we won't necessarily have a better standard of living as the rate is what he was earning in the UK 12 years ago. We hope to be able to buy a NZ property outright. Sorry, but I cant really be much help to be honest. I do know a few sparkys, but not well enough to ask their earnings.
I do know that any building related trademen are in high demand here in Whitianga. There are more than a few expat brits/southAfricans/Canadians etc etc who are making it work.
However, due to the high property prices here, it is not a first choice location for some. We infact have a bigger mortgage than we had in UK, but consider it worthwhile.
As for "standard of living".....life is what you make it.
