Hi all,

We've been planning with my wife to go on a working holiday and possibly stay even longer in NZ, if everything goes nicely :) There's one problem though: I'm a Finn, so I can apply for a WH visa without any problem, but she is Russian citizen, so there's no such option for her. Now, we've read that you can be granted an open work visa(?) if your partner has a WP. How does this apply for WHVs? Can she also get a WHV or WP or something so that we could work and travel together? Thanks for all your help!

Unfortunately the same does not apply to a WHV as does to a work permit. WHV is issued to anyone who meets the criteria (country, age) and they need have no skills to get one.
A WP is granted on evidence of a specific skillset which is required in NZ, which is why partners are granted visas also.
Can she just come over on a holiday visa (not sure how long that would be for from Russia)?

You'll have to come on a WHV, her on a 'holiday' and then you get yourself a job quick! If you get a skilled role you'll be able to get a work permit with not much hassle, and then, assuming you meet the criteria for acceptance as partners (proof of living together 2 years+ in a stable relationship type things) then she will be able to apply for a work permit as well on the basis of yours.
