Hi,

Just wanting to ask a few questions/advice on rural living with a young one. Were moving out in May and going to be living in a place called Rawene, Hokinga Harbour in the Northland. I'm coming from city life where there has been lots of excellent support from Health Visitors, Baby Classes etc. Just wondering what if any support there may be out there? I've heard about Plunket Nurses are they similar to Health Visitors? I think there is also a Play Centre there has anyone attended one? Do children attend nursery once there 3yrs?
Also wondering if anyone knows if you can get Oilitum Infant bath oil/cream?

My toddlers just had his MMR, does anyone know the immunisation system in NZ? It's getting crazy in the UK, apparently another load of new immunisations are coming out this year.

Cheers x

The NZ immunization schedule is here:

Plunket is here:

Playcentre is here
http://playcentre.org.nz/playcentreDetail.php?id=342&assocID=

We use Playcentre and really like it, it's parent-led, you go along with your children for 2 or 3 sessions a week (looks like Rawene only has 2 sessions).

I don't know what you mean by nursery so can't help there I'm afraid.

I'm sure you've done a lot of research but be aware that Rawene is very small and fairly isolated so don't expect a lot in the way of services.

Hi my daughter used oilitum bath oil, we have not yet brought any here as haven't found them yet. But there is similar product under different names, I brought five bottle of oilitum from UK GP before i came out to NZ. So still on it at moment, but before shipping turn up i use local's and they are really good :nice1
One things i have learn last week is a eczema creams and oil are free but other aren't! Unfortunately my daughter react badly to 'free' cream so she end up with other cream cost us $28 a 500g tub :exit
What i did before i came out is build up stocks from my GP and put it in shipping containers....I brought with me, 24 tins of hypoallergic formula milk, three tub of cream, two tube of hydrcortsione, five bottle of oilitum oil etc...You allow to have up to 3 months of stocks from GP as it is free :nice1 (my GP threw in more in stock for me ;) ) BUT make sure you got support letter from UK GP to state what medications it is and what is for and who is for for shipping containers customs.

Immunization: MMR given at 15months here, on arrival your child will be ask to have Hep B and Men B (don't have to but up to you my both children did) MMR booster given just before your child start school at 4/5.
