What is acceptable to provide as evidence that my husband and I meet the minimum standard of English? We're both born and brought up in the UK. Would degree certificates be sufficient or is there something else?

All we did was say we were born and brought up in the UK - this will be reflected on your respective birth certificates. When we received our ITA it stated we didn't have to fill this section in. Hope this helps.

Ditto..........

On the EOI, we just put that English was our mother tongue.

Same, we wrote in the space that we were born in an English speaking country, and brought up in English speaking households.:)

hi guys

funny to know the brits are also being asked to show proof of english proficiency? sheesh. i can understand asking us from the philippines, although modesty aside, i speak the language better than the visa officer who interviewed me.

i think the visa officers work "by-the-book". most of them did not have english as their mother tongue, so maybe they understand the rules verbatim or literally.

they did ask us to take the ielts exam, but we appealed to nzis and gave them certificates of english as medium of instruction in our schools from grade 1 to university, including our grades in the english subjects, and told them that in our line of work we constantly communicate with foreign schools and institutions, students and parents from north america to the pacific region to almost all of asia. at least the visa officer acknowledged this and said we passed the requirements for english proficiency.

now all we need is for her to issue the visa...

cheers!
