Having read a variety of threads relating to work we were just wondering when you were offered a job in NZ?
And in what field?

My wife was offered a job within 2 weeks of arrival, as an aged care giver. I was offered a job by the first potential employer that I aproached, within 3 weeks of arrival. It then took several more weeks to get work permits in place before we could legally start the jobs.

came without jobs, it took us three long months to secure one (we didn`t expect everything to slow down to a full stop around Christmas). But since then, had other job offers and have moved around. Laura

Got the offer from a refrigeration transport company in Auckland as HGV driver before we arrived, they kept it open until we sold up. Time from job offer to selling house and getting here.......16 months. Got here and never started the job having realised that Auckland wasn't financially viable. Moved down to the Waikato and got another job. Now unemployed as contract with Fonterra(tanker driver) was only seasonal.

Came here without jobs - travelled around - did summer jobs - secured jobs within about 4/5 weeks, but moved around since. Very difficult to make the right fit between experience from overseas with a job in NZ.
Cheers,
Anita

Thanks for all the replies it has been really helpful.
We are both making the move without jobs to go to and feeling very nervous about giving up everything in the hope that it will all work out for us on the other side of the planet.
So far we have been unable to secure employment before we leave the UK. The general census from recruitment agencies is that unless you are on the ground companies just aren't interested.:no
OH is an Electronic Design Engineer (suppose to be a skill shortage) and I am a Finance Officer.
We are both feeling very anxious as you can imagine?

Job offer whilst visiting NZ. Currently providing staff development, mentoring/coaching and business process review for a small business group.
This type of work very dependent on interpersonal relationship so I doubt if I could have secured it from the UK.
