Thanks for the info. This may be helpful in getting the Dragonlady to quit as well!

I suppose it depends where you are located. There are some fantastic Chinese restaurants in Auckland - there is a large Chinese population here.
(I still can't quite bring myself to eat the chicken feet though...)

There is also excellent Japanese, Korean and Thai food to be got. Generally South East Asian cuisine is pretty good.

Don't know what you are used to in Canada, but in the UK we are not used to having broccoli, cauliflower and other seasonal veg in our chop suey, chow miens, fried rices or curries........yuk !!

And on top of that, to me they seem quite tasteless.

Now look what you've done........you've got me wanting a good hot and sour soup with a crispy duck and pancakes, complimented with hoi-sin sauce to follow.

Aaah well - a girl can dream.............

Just the smell of the soggy brocc and cauli puts me off going in to most chinese takeaways :no - found a couple we like but still not great. I prefer Japanese and Thai these days....

we've got some really good chinese restaurants here in welly. like moorf though i tend nowadays to prefer thai (or malaysian, cambodian, vietnamese etc). i don't really eat takeaway though except the occasional fish and chips and so it may be that takeaway chinese is of substantially lower quality?

That's certainly been true in our experience, some lovely chinese restaurants, just not the takeaways.
