Hi all,

I have been following this forum for several months now, and must admit that it is one of the most polite and useful forums I've seen for a while. Well done to those posters who maintain this balance :nice1

I have been bouncing all over the globe for many years now and have lived and worked for several years in each of the UK, USA, Australia and South Africa, so the grass-is-greener thing is quite lost on me now. My wife (can we still say wife?) is from New Zealand and we always thought we'd end up there again one day, which is why I've registered with this forum. The views are frank and honest, which is a bonus when you consider the number of people who might (and do) make life-changing decisions based on poster's opinions.

So I hope you don't mind me joining in on the fun here as a way of keeping up with the latest on New Zealand, and hopefully I can return the favour with any possible advice or suggestions based on our own rather nomadic existence :)

Cheers,
Nomad

Welcome on board. It will be great to hear views of someone who has 'bounced around the globe' and experienced so many moves

Welcome to the forum, Nomad! I moved from Germany to the UK 10 years ago, so the move to New Zealand later this year will be my second 'emigration.' I have also lived in the US, though that seems a loooong time ago...

But as an aside, why would you not call your wife 'wife'?

Probably another example of political correctness gone hinky. Maybe the new gov't guidelines insist that we should use the non-gender specific 'partner'.

:laugh

Actually, that's what I call the Dragonlady. My partner.

Dragonlady, hmmmm.... Don't think I'd get away with that one. Saying 'wife' implies you are married, which also doesn't go down too well in the same circles that scorn the use of 'wife' or 'hubby'. 'Partner' is a bit stale though, and is best reserved for the person standing next to you on a tennis court. 'Other half' is a bit more fun, and probably a better substitute for 'better half' which is one of those eye-of-the-beholder things. During our last sojourn in the UK, I found that saying 'missus' could win you friends in one part of the England but get you beheaded in another.

It must be said though that my wife has on occasion called me names that I am sure can not be perceived as politically correct, or even civil for that matter :o

Thanks for all the welcomes anyway!
