I couldn't think of a subject for my post and I don't know how to phrase my question! Please excuse all the brackets - the sign of a disorganised mind!Looking at the points calculator and a job offers I'm not sure what to fill in on EIO (when I eventually fill one in) about my husband's qualifications and work experience. He has a BSc in Applied Maths (so he's a mathematician) but has never worked as one because soon after he graduated we got married and went for the two year overseas stint (one year in America and one in UK) where he had the kind of jobs foreigners get there. Anyway, since he left school (i.e. while at university and after) he was the regional director of a non-profit organisation (SonSurf, Affiliated to Christian Surfriders in Australia and USA) which means he was a youth worker (counselling, organising outings and camps, organising fundraising events, etc). Since coming back from Edinburgh he and two partners have started a small advertising business and also are creating a new clothing label which seems to be doing really well but not exactly earning millions yet. ANYWAY, my question is what to fill in on the EIO - I dont think they give space to fill in all these things and I don't want to confuse the issue? If he fills in that he has a degree but then fills in that he is a youth worker will they not assume that he has a degree in youth work (like social worker) and then think we were lying when they look closer? Also, I dont think he wants to be a youth worker - he wants to work as a mathematician (although I havent seen any jobs advertised for mathematicians). Sorry if this makes no sense - I am so confused and now I think I'm confusing all of you too!

I am assuming you are trying to go down the Skilled Migrant route. Forgive me if this is incorrect.

Your OH should be able to claim points for his degree under the Qualification section as a "Recognized Basic Qualification" but I think that's it.

Hope this helps.

Further to Paula's post, you would not be able to claim any work experience against the qualification as the experience is not relevant to the degree.

But you might still make it, if he did get a job using his degree- look at Statistics NZ they hire Maths people!
Try
http://www.jobs.govt.nz/jobs/search.aspx
or
http://www.stats.govt.nz
You might be able to send in his C.V. and see if they are interested, even if nothing is posted at the moment.

Here is their International Recruitment (http://www.stats.govt.nz/about-us/vacancies/international-recruitment.htm) page.
It's what I used.

;)

OH, WHAT A GIVEAWAY!

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the links to job sites. We are looking at all routes (including Skilled migrant) but looking at points it looks a bit iffy so maybe we'll try the work permit thing or maybe go visit my sister when she moves there and then look around for jobs (if that's not against the rules?) Thanks again, you really are all very helpful and beyond sweet.
