I'm sure this must have been covered before but have done a search and can't find anything.

What do people do for a postal address when moving out to NZ? E.g. what address did you give the shippers (assuming you haven't got a rental sorted out), what do you give as a forwarding address to companies in the UK?

I'm just trying to get as much sorted as early as I can so it's not all a last minute thing.

Jamie, I know I can set up a mail redirection within the UK but where do I send the mail to in NZ? What address do I give if we don't have a rental organised before we go? The likelihood is that we will be staying in a hotel/motel or something similar for the first week or so. What have other people done?

We put a 12 month re-direct on to the the motor lodge we were staying at and once we were here, edit: i.e. in a rented house!) we rang Royal Mail and changed the address of redirection.

As far as the shippers were concerned, we couldn't give them a destination address, 'cos we didn't know where we would end up !

However, the shippers gave us a telephone number for the company in NZ who would be storing and eventually delivering our goods (Conroys) and when we purchased our mobile phones when we arrived in NZ we phoned Conroys and gave them our mobile numbers as a means of contact.

As far as UK mail was concerned, we redirected it to a rellie, who either forwarded it on or opened it and rang us if it looked urgent/official.

Worked for us.

Hope this helps.

All my UK post go to my parents as they are responsible for house till it is sold, they contact us if it is urgent post like solicitors' letter or house offers to discuss. Any non-house paperworks, they posted to us, so we can inform them change of address.

No matter how many times you rang the companies to inform change of address or to cancel the contract, you still get letters from them asking if you wish to contiune contract or why you have not paying the bill for pensions, insurance etc (even we told them we moving to NZ and asked for contract to be cancel by writing):mad:
