  Hi everyone
the coleys are ready to start the whole process of getting to NZ after much emotional blackmail from inlaws etc. But what order do we do things?
I am Secondary school teacher and hubby is IT consultant so we know we should have enough points to be selected even without job offer. (I know we are very lucky). Is it wise to start the ball rolling with getting qualifications assessed even before we send off EOI or should we wait until we are selected. I am a little concerned that NZQA seem to take a long time but don't really want to fork out extra for express service (trying to save every penny for move).
When do we put house on the market? Want to try to get there Jan. 08 ish
Are we mad trying to do this with a 4 year old and two 3 year olds ??:roll
Anybody got any money saving tips when going through the process?
Can i join the auckland gang when we get there?
When do you book medicals and police checks?
I am so excited but also nervous (can u tell?) :raebanana
Would somebody just kindly talk us through the order they did things?
Thank you in anticipation
Diane

Well Diane we submitted EOI without being aware of NZQA rules changing - (Apparently Dec 06). We have received ITA and are being asked to apply for and send in full NZQA (takes up to 30 days?) with all other completed forms. OH is an Electrician.
We are about to get medicals and these cannot be older than 3 months when you send in with ITA.
Police checks can be done anytime and can take up to 40 days - about to send ours off.
You need A4 style of birth certificate with parents occupations listed. We had to apply for one but it only took a few days.
So I think now process should be:
1. NZQA and EOI
2. ITA and medicals etc.
Someone will advise if that is incorrect. It is my understanding but I am still rather amateur compared to the other veterans out there.:roll

Just wanted to add (as my hubby is a seconday school teacher too) that we were told to get Teacher Registration before submitting EOI. We are not sure if this is correct or not but it would mean that you have to get a NZQA assessment done straight away as the Teachers Council require you to have the NZQA report to apply for Teacher registration. More money!!!

Thanks folks
So it looks like they have got you which ever way you do it. I will send my qualifications off to be assessed this week and get that out of the way first. Can you tell me if I am the main applicant do we now need to get hubby's qualifications assessed as well?
MORE MONEY!
thanks again Diane

Hi Diane,
Wanted to say good luck and welcome to the forum.
There is a really good post from Juniper a few months ago, about the order in which to do things, which you may find helpful.
The order we did things though was
1. Submit EOI
2. Wait for ITA to arrive,
3: then book medicals and arrange police checks
4: Submit ITA
We had a few problems with our EOI and had we arranged the Medicals and POlice checks they would have expired before we had our ITA and we would have had to pay twice, so imho worth waiting for the ita to be in your hand!

OK, this is my order, and it all happened quickly:
August 2006 - said "shall we move to NZ" to partner, bought books, spent hours on internet doing research, ordered and watched tourist DVDs.
September 2006 - Applied for 8 jobs via internet, interviewed via phone for 7, offered all of them. Sent off for police checks at beginning of Sept and got medicals done towards end of September.
October 2006 - went to Expo in London, decided to go for PR rather than work permit. Submitted EOI - 195 points, selected straight away. ITA arrived end of October, sent it in the next day with all paperwork and passports. (Had spent time preparing all stuff beforehand, have turned into obsessive nutter by this point.)
November 2006. Nervous 3 week wait. Looked up flights. Hassled case officer. Snapped at everyone. 3rd week in November - phone call from CO to say application successful. Immediately booked flights for mid Jan.
Dec 2006 - Spend hours looking at all rentals in area and find one we like. Pay retainer to keep it until Jan. Clear all rubbish out of house - many trips to charity shop, start packing stuff up. Discover ENZ, have new obsession.
Jan 2006 - working still, plus packing, cancelling bills, cards, etc etc. Manic shopping for clothes, thinking I will never see a clothes shop again. 3 x goodbye parties including w/e in farmhouse. Paint , clean tidy house and garden to rent it. Handover house to tenants. Flew 26th Jan.

Yes, that's correct. Here's the 4 step process recommended at www.teachnz.govt.nz:
1. Have your qualifications assessed (NZQA)
2. Register with the New Zealand Teachers Council (Steps 1 & 2 may be started at the same time)
All teachers at primary and secondary level, and at supervisor level in early childhood services in New Zealand, must be registered with the Teachers Council. You will need to provide them with your NZQA assessment report and other documentation. An application form for registration can be downloaded from the New Zealand Teachers Council's website.
Overseas teachers must also display a high level of proficiency in oral and written English by passing an IELTS test. You will need to produce a certificate or results sheet as part of your application. Citizens of some countries such as the UK, Canada and USA are exempt from this requirement. A full list of countries that are exempt is included with the application form for registration.
3. Apply for a job
4. Obtain a work permit (does not apply to Australian citizens or permanent residents)

My order is very similar to Debbie's
1. NZQA (right away)
2. Teachers' Council Registration
3. EOI (and ITA depending on time remaining)
4. Start job seeking.
Cheers and all the best.
Mark.
