Just wondering if they exist. And/or charity shops. We're not posh.

There are some car boot sales but it is usually garage sales advertised in local papers or flyers.

There are charity shops, don't know how many

I don't think you are allowed to import fleas. I am sure I saw them on the list of banned items. Maybe if they are in a sealed can you could take them in and then sell them

Darn, rethinking needed on this whole immigration thingy now. All for a few fleas (or lack thereof)!

At first I thought your question was, do cars have boots? :) I've only read about car boot sales on the forum, so I would say no, they're not common in NZ. But garage/yard sales are, and flea markets. Charity stores are usually called op (opportunity) shops and are everywhere.

we got red cross charity shops and also we got sallie (salvation army) charity shops too.
Flea markets and garage sales is more common, look out for it in newspapers. Car boots is not common but i have seen one in Blenheim as drive-by to Nelson from chch.
Also you will see 'flea types' shops too.

Hah, maybe I should've said 'We're not POMS'!

Good thing posh people drop things off at charity shops too...otherwise I'd never get to look like one! :D

Oh boy...trying to get my foot out of my mouth...!

The word I wanted  --not pom--but "Toff". See what a year out of the UK does to you?

Now for the definition of 'Pom' which I JUST looked up: "Noun 1. pom - a disparaging term for English immigrants to Australia or New Zealand"

Where on earth did I pick that one up?

We had a Kiwi pastor at our English-speaking 'church' in the Netherlands. Most of the Americans about fell off their chairs when he one day announced he was "going to go knock up Nancy."

In American, that means 'get her pregnant'.

Sigh...not gonna live this one down, am I?

Can't speak for other places in NZ but in Christchurch they have a big market out at McClean's Island (near the Christchurch airport) going out towards Issac Salmon fisheries.

It's hosted by the Vintage Car Club that have a combind classic car show with those owning pads to sell almost anything. There's over 700 pads there and will easily take you a full day to just walk around the place. It's probably the biggest swap meet market in Christchurch which is held around October time every year

There's also a weekly Sunday Market near Riccarton if you're living in Christchurch.

:laugh :laugh :laugh Probably not........

I have to say that I haven't seen any 'car boots' here in our neck of NZ (and I know what you mean 'cos I'm a Pom!) but there are an abundance of garage sales advertised in the local rags.

Oooh and Op Shops galore......always good for a browse Daaaahling !

Lots of Op shops and garage sales in Auckland too. There are also Deigner Recycle Stores, where those who buy designer labels can take their last season's clothes and sell them with the store taking half the selling price.
A great way to get some really good clothes at an excellent price. (I got an amazing Chloe dress for $350 which retailed at over $1000 only 6 months earlier!)

It was for a wedding - but I'm making sure I wear it out to dinner and other places too.
It's just a simple little black dress, but so beautifully cut I couldn't resist...

Know what you mean - I have some really nice dresses and stuff but can't see me wearing them any time soon - We've actually got a funeral to go to tomorrow and apparently they even dress casual for them, they don't even dress in black??!!
:uhoh

Anyone want to buy some dressy clothes - hmmmmmmmmmmm wears that link to trade me???? :exit
