Which airline are you flying?

Most provide children packs, ie colouring books etc. Take some travel games/cards.

The entertainement screens are a god send, they have a childrens channel and videio games.

Dont give then sodas(coke) or sweets. Order your childrens meal. Make sure it is orderd when you check in.

And have a long stiff drink when you arrive

Are you stopping off somwhere?

Also check out the other thread on this topic

We flew with a 1yo and a 5yo to Aus last year and I'd just echo everything said above. No (or minimal) sweeties to avoid sugar crashes. Buy them a surprise toy to give them on the plane as a treat for being good at check in/in the airport. Take pyjamas and try to get them in a routine for a kip - worked like a dream for us, kind of a prompt/signal that it was bedtime. Don't worry about other peoples huffs and puffs on the plane if they create a bit - we had a grumpy young man complain that our little 1yo was crying and offered for him to try and calm her down if he could.

I think the key is to be as relaxed as possible yourself and they'll have a great time.

Hopefully :)

I would echo what Tick Tock and Aberdian have said. Try to relax and enjoy the flight and don't give them any fizzy drinks. Make sure they get plenty of water/fluids and just try to get them settled down to sleep (particularly if you have a night time flight). My two have teddies they sleep with (not sure they'd want me to admit it) and they like to sleep with them so we took them along on the flight.

Make sure you take something for them to play with on board. On the whole I have found other passengers to be quite tolerant of small children (most have been in the same position at some point).

Have a good journey.

thanks for the tips...guess i'll have to eat all them sweets myself before we go. have got toys and a few surprises for when they get really bored so hopefully it will be ok. the 5 yr old is normaly ok as he understands when its time to be good. the two yr old does his own thing as most two yr olds do.

We just came back Friday flying with one stop over for 3hrs in singapore with a 3 and 5 year old. The two of them were mesmerised by the inflight video where they could choose the move or TV show they wanted. The Flight crew came round regularly with drinks, snacks etc when ever the kids wanted. In fact we gave them what ever they wanted including sweets and they were brilliant for the journey. They probably travelled better than most of the adults as they got some sleep!

Just warn...on our emigrated trip, the entertainment system crashed during whole flight.....
my three years old was bored with his toys as didn't take enough toys to keep him occupied because there was nothing for kids to play with just in case in the plane:no !
So have back up plan just in case........

Totaly agree with the above, my children are older but we always take, ipod, gameboys and books for them...just in case!

I know that doesnt help with children so small...just be prepared

I took tonnes of stuff for them to do and they hardly did any of it, just sat and stared mesmerised at the (usually very restricted) TV screen. They also dances in the aisle for a bit, went to the toilet lots for fun, and hardly slept at all. They loved it. I hated it.

Good luck with everything fellow Cornwallites!
