Just got quotes back from Pickfords.

£2675 for a shared container
£3213 for a 20ft
£4845 for a 40ft which would include space for campervan.

This includes packing and unpacking and all boxes / materials but does not include insurance

Container shipping isn't cheap. That's why it pays to ask if the job you're getting will pay for your shipping expense (relocation expense). For many high profile jobs, the company will pay for all the container shipping. However for personal interest, you'll pay dearly through the nose.

Also not all containers are built the same. Some are in better condition than others and some are quite poor at breathing (condensation problems). Some containers get lost out in the sea if they're not locked down properly on the boat (insurance helps).

It's also a wise idea to pay the extra $ to have a carpenter to build partitions inside the container so boxes can be stacked up to the ceiling and can not be thrown around inside the container. One MAF inspector told me he's seen cars flipped upside down when opening the container in the bonded area for the 1st time. You can imagine the look of the owner's face. All due to because the shipper didn't pay the $ to lock down the car's tires and build partitions to isolate other goods being shipped.

Agree with above . If you use professional shiperes they should use crates and stack the boxes so there is little if no movement. Self packing can be a problem as in general experance packers will pack more efficantly.
At the time of quoting your packer should show you the cost of any crates they need to build and any "shoring up"....If your goods do not fill the container comptly...

All containers are not the same and you should always inspect your container.
The best thing to do is get in the container and have the doors closed..any holes will let light through..reject any contaier that does this.

Look on the outside, check for rust and that the doors will lock. On the outer four corners you will see that they holes in the metal. this is to "lock" the container in place on the trailer and you should make sure they are in good repair.

If the inside is dirty, has residue etc, pls note that this can cause a problem with MAF.

If you expecting and have been quoted and have paid for crates, check and double check BEFORE the packers come that the crates have been ordered!! I speak from bitter experience!! Our compant had quoted and we paid for a crate for a grandfather clock, day one, it was mentioned to the packers, but by the time they came on the morning of day three to pack the container, it was found that it had NOT been requested by the salesperson. The clock ended up being triple wrapped in card. When we unpacked the container this end it looks ok, but it has gone into storage so we have yet to find out if it actually is!!!!

It totally ruined the whole thing for me, stressful enough as it is, I spent most of that last packing day swearing and cursing as you can imagine and having a rant at the sales person!

So please check, check and check again!!!!
