A general question on taxes -- How many different types of taxes (and approx. how much for each) does one expect to pay in New Zealand? US federal income taxes top out ~28%, but there is also state tax, social security, and medicare, etc. Property taxes in the US vary widely depending on where you live.

As I understand it the social security is included in the tax amount but there is also GST (general sales tax) on everything you buy too, and rates on your house. There are probably some others too but that is what I know about.

Thanks for the info. It's amazing that so many folks in New Zealand own their houses! Real estate value doesn't seem to match salaries.
