hi, we move over to NZ in 3 weeks and my hubby has job in Hastings.

Can anyone recommend any suburbs that are nice to live in ??

I have been lokings on Trade me and seen nice properties in Havelock North, Onekawa, Hospital Hill and Tamatea - anyone know anything about these and how far they are from where he will be working ??

Hi Sharon,

We live in Havelock, oh works in Hastings, at least thats where his office is based. Hawkes Bay is his region (he is a sales engineer) It takes him about 10mins to get to his office in Queen St.
We love Havelock it has everything we need, Doctors, dentists, a new world supermarket, quite a reasonably good size centre, though some of the shops are quite pricey.
Havelock has 3 primary schools, 1 intermediate and 1 high school, 2 private girls schools, 1 private boys, all have very good reputations. It has a indoor and a outdoor swimmingpool, a play area for the little ones, with swings etc, and a library.
whoops think i have gone off topic a bit:laugh
The question was nice suburbs, Havelock :yes
Tamatea : is not a area i would choose, the high school doesn't have a very good reputation, and we have a 16yr old daughter. I have friends that live right facing the school but they send their children to taradale school.
Taradale :yes is quite popular with many brits, it was one of the areas on our list when we were deciding where to live.
Onekawa don't really know much on this one sorry.
Napier hill :yes yes very nice, very central for napier centre, also have friends living on the hill, they love it, their children go to napier boys and napier girls and they are very happy with their progress so far.
Napier takes about 15-20 mins from hastings, depending what part of hastings your travelling from.
Hope that helps a little,

Moira

Some of the land in Tamatea is leasehold so you may want to keep that in mind. Napier Hill is ok (parking can sometimes be a problem) but further from Hastings than Taradale for example (which, as Femke says, is popular with many brits.
We live in Greenmeadows (right by Taradale) and the commute to Hastings is only about 10 - 15 minutes. Avoid Mareanui and Pirimi.
Oh.. and good luck! :)

I don't like Clive. But others seem to, so can't be bad I suppose! I get put off by it being on the drag between HAvelock, Hastinsg and Napier (busy road) and being close to sea at Napier (rubbish- really rough and dangerous and yuck beach to boot), rather than Ocean Beach or Central Hawkes BAy beaches.

That said, it's a good growth area to invest in, if you can afford something off the main road then you get the benefits including a decent swimming pool etc.

Hi Lupin

Sounds like everything is going well for you, your dream sounds like ours so we will follow closely,

We are looking at the Hawkes Bay area to relocate, big step like everyone else, but sounds worth it, we will be able to come over and then have to look for work, having been self employed for years I will be used to having to look for work so hopefully won`t be too long.

I am a builder too, but also an Electrician, so I have a bit more scope looking for the right job, was it easy to find a house kit supplier and is it expensive to huy a lot and build, at least you get the house you want when your finished,
