Hi everyone,
I'm Helen and my hubby is Dave. We have recently visited the Emirgration group. It is very early days for us. They deal with everything, the cost was a shock. Anyway, nothing good comes cheap.
We have just been informed that my hubby's Mum cannot come with us until after 3years. Can any1 shed any light on this. :)

hello and welcome
have you signed up with emigration group yet? if not then i'd say think twice. you say nothing good comes cheap but the advice on here is free and all you'll need to do your application yourself.
yes they are right - you need to have been in NZ for 3 years before you can sponsor a parent for residence under the family stream

A warm welcome to you!
Sorry about your hubby's Mum - but you need to prove your commitment to NZ before you can bring family over (other than your children) - I'm sure the three years will whiz by for you!
I've not heard many people on here who use the agency, but it can be helpful if you have an unusual application. From what I hear, you'll still have to provide the same information yourself - but if it turns out to be less of a headache for you (and you can afford it) then good luck

yeah!! we have already done the signing, my OH reckons cos they help get you a job and deal with everything it will be worth it. I just wish i could have signed up to this site earlier.
If my mother - in - law has family there, cousins i think could they not sponsor her. We really are worried about leaving her in the UK on her own.

I think if your M-i-L has cousins then that wouldn't be enough of a relationship for a family stream application. It would help her to have a few extra points for her own application, but she'd need to be working and in a certain skills category to make that work.
There are a few people on the forum waiting out their time to bring family over - I think your three years only start from when you active your PR, but someone might have better info on that than me (I'm a kiwi sponsoring my partner over so it's a different set of criteria for us)
Since your m-i-l can live in NZ for up to six months on a visitor permit (as long as she doesn't work and you support her), would that be viable for the three years - although she will be in the UK on her own for half of the time :uhoh

First of all - WELCOME to the forum.
I really do hope that someone comes along and proves me wrong, but I have not heard of anyone that has been offered a job in NZ via an emigration agency.
Yes, they will give you contacts, ie Seek.co.nz etc, but nothing that you can't find out for yourself. They are NOT employment agencies.
Are you coming out on the Skilled Migrant Category?
Unless you really do have an unusual problem/situation with your application, may I suggest that you strongly think twice before you go any further.
Before my hubby and I came across this forum, we had dealings with an agency in Cheshire if I remember correctly and we were told that because we had submitted our E.O.I there was very little they could do to help - we had done all the hard work !
I presume you are looking at and using the N.Z Immigration website??
I'm sorry to hear about your MIL, but rules are rules and no emigration agency can change them - whatever they say.
Good luck with all your plans and don't be afraid to ask anything, however silly it may sound- remember, it's not silly to you and we've all been there.

My OH was offered four jobs via emigration agency's sister, employment agency ODG. We didn't used same emigration agency as your, our was called Migration Bureau, they were very good and helpful. Yes they are very expensive but we decide to use them as we were too busy with house as done house up to get it on the market quick...and also expected new baby and had new baby(now 13months old) etc. So we opt for agency, we didn't find out about this site, ENZ till just before we left for NZ. Your emigration agency will forward you to employment agency if they have one.

It was the Emigration group based in Chester. Apparently arrange interviews for you. They have a sister group called Taylor and Associates a Migrant employment search group. Does anyone know when you get to NZ how long is it before you get Permanent residency???
Can anyone help, we joined the two groups the emigration group, it is expensive but apparently they cover everything. Would it be better for us to do it all ourselves. My husband needs a job offer to earn the extra points needed.

with agency, you can choose when you want to move! We got job offer in april 2006, in EOI pool by june 2006, but we weren't ready to move till sept/oct 2006, so they delay our application of ITA to PR till end of august. They got ball rolling in end of august and got PR two weeks later. We flew out in end of oct 2006. My OH was same as your OH that need job offer to gain extra points needed.

Hi Julie, my OH has city and guilds in his trade. The points were totalled up and he scored 100 and we were told he needed 150 points. Another 50points, a job offer they said would get him the points. They also told us that they are very strict and won't accept you without a job offers.
Where are you now then? When do you go and what area are you hoping for.
I have so many questions i wouldn't know where to start.:

with 100 points you are entitled to apply but the chances of you getting selected are very slim indeed. with 140 points or a job offer you'd be guaranteed selection (don't know where they got 150 points from). so yes in your case a job offer is probably the best way to go. basically you can try and get one from there - how successful you are with that will depend on what your OH does - or you can come over here on a visitors visa for up to 6 months and get one while you are here (then just stay and apply for PR from here) as many emplyers are a lot more keen to emply someone that is on the spot.
where in NZ were you considering?

You can be selected from the pool without a job offer and you certainly do not need 150 points.....read Trigirls post re 'guaranteed selection'.
Have you filled in an online EOI yourself to check your points? Have a look here........
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/
If your OH has City and Guilds (Parts 1 & 2) and a few years of work experience behind him (and can prove it to NZIS with the necessary paperwork/documentation) I would double check the points situation online and see what you get, however, maybe you've done this already eh??
To be honest with you, I would be tempted to spend the money you are willing to give to the Emigration agency on a recce/job hunting/seeing the cousins trip, but that's just my thoughts.
You ask where we are - well, we live in a place called Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty. It's a coastal town about 100km (give or take) from Tauranga on the North Island.
You say that you have so many questions - well ask them here Helen.
Remember what I said in a previous post - no question is a silly question, we've all asked them before.
Use the forums search facility and if you can't find what you're looking for post a message on the board, because someone will have the answer.
Good luck with whatever you decide,
Julie

just to second what julie says - ask away - this is a very friendly place and we've all been "new" at some point and asked questions that we were worried might have been silly (they're not!)
