We had a phase of this in our street, they did it on way to school, which is our dog walking time, they sound like fireworks, so dog refused to go for his walk....

Not heard them in ages now....

Another fad - but like most things they tend to die out. Not nice if they doing it in the shopping centres though! Bit like the happy slapping craze in UK. But worryingly, my brother tells me there have been 9 teens killed in the last fortnight  Just hope this doesn't become the norm.

I saw that a couple of weeks ago on the TV program called Neighbours at War. 2 kids were driving this poor lady (with a 3yr old toddler and 6 months pregnant) crazy and all the kids' mum could say was "well let them have fun they're no harm"

Me too, the noise was awful and would have driven me bonkers - I guess the mums have the same attitude when their kids sit in the drive revving the car up.. :(

The worse thing is that those are home made whips (made from bed sheets). After the police had confiscated the whips, these kids went home and made another one. Now, they go around whipping after dark.

Hope the police could quickily put an end to it before anybody/animal get harm or property get damage.

I'm sure it will die out, kids seem to go through these fads. I just hope no one is hurt in the meantime. With things like this I always wonder at their parents bad attitudes. I know if my kids were doing something that others found upsetting or intimidating then I would go out of my way to put a stop to it.

Even Harrison Ford (http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/2007/02/01/harrison_ford_will_quit_indiana_jones_4_) can't use a whip anymore.

What is the world coming to? When whips are outlawed, only young children will have whips.

H&S gone mad!!!!
He's a grown man, he is expected to use a whip, every one around him knows he's going to use a whip, what is the problem.

As for the kids, the police should leave it alone, it will die out when they get bored with it. Unfortunately they will probably move onto something more dangerous, or louder

Well, i'm not surprised. Everytime I drive to town here in Christchurch, I see more than my fair share of graffiti works on public and private properties.

Tough call to decide which is worse? To have kids making noise with homemade whips or going out on the streets with a fluorescent spray can tagging?

Blame it on low income families? Lack of the sense of closeness among the neighborhood? I dunno...
