Hi there,

I have a question for all those in the know.

My husband is planning on contacting specialist recruitment agencies (in overseas engineering) in Nov/Dec in the hope of setting interviews up in March 08 (for him to actually attend face to face).

Now, we cannot claim points under the LTSSL despite his job being on the list - he doesn't have the necessary accredited degree but he does have 20 years exp.

So how does this work if he gets a job offer? Will the job (e.g. Senior Design Engineer) be 'allowed' under the Skilled Migrant category? The more I read up on category options when you have a job offer is mighty confusing. My worry is even if he gets a job offer, will this be enough to gain PR?

I hope this all makes sense and I'd appreciate any of your thoughts/answers!

his job offer only needs to be skilled to count for PR points. it doesn't need to be on the LTSSL. if his job is on the list but he doesn't get ponts only because of his qual then he will definitely get points for a job offer. so don't worry

Thank you so much - we were both getting into a bit of a tizz last night, when we realised all our hopes so far could be well and truly dashed :(

Panic over :)

they are short on engineers here so it could even be by contacting some recruitment people on the phone here he may get an indication of interest. might be worth calling up the NZ yellowpages and going through some of the agencies direct.

We had a similar problem, Kev has loads of years experience but no qualifications, we had to get a job offer to have enough points to even put in an EOI, but once we got the job offer, the application was fast tracked, the only thing they do is put a section 18A condition on your visa, basically it means you have to work for the people who gave you the job offer, or in a job of equal skill, for a minimum of 3 months, prove to them you have done this by getting a letter from your employer then the condtion gets removed!

I read a blog with someone going through the process with just his 20 year experience. Just in case you're interested in reading and hope Chipshaker won't mind...
