My mum asked a question yesterday and I didn't know the answer so thought you good people could help. If I get PR in the skilled migrant category with a job offer and after I have been in NZ for a couple years want to change my job to a completely different career - not covered under the skilled migrant category can I still do that or is my PR revoked?

Answer.....yes. The rule with PR is the employee shall stay with the said company for a period of 3 months. Once this date is passed the employee may leave and take up something completely different.

As Kim says, once you are in and have worked for 3 months you could do what you want, as long as it is legal

I'm confused here (not difficult for me!) or maybe I have misread your post.
We were granted PR under the Skilled Migrant category whilst still in the UK and for us, a job offer was not a necessary part of the application as far as points were concerned. Don't get that last sentence confused with the necessary points required for guaranteed selection from the pool.
If you have (or will be) granted PR due to your skills (as opposed to the job offer) and the job offer you have is not relevant to your application, apart from the fact that it will speed up your application and obviously give you extra points , then there are no restrictions to your PR and you can work for who you want, where you want for as long as you want. We had no restrictions on our PR - it was granted to us on the basis of my hubbies skills alone.
However, if you have been granted PR purely on the back of that job offer, you may find a clause on your PR that states that you have to remain in that job for a minimum of 3 months and then that clause 18 will be removed.
However, even if you have a clause 18 on your PR you can change your job after the required 3 months and do what you want. Your PR will not be revoked as long as you comply with any initial clauses placed on it.
That's how I understand it anyway..........always ready to be corrected though.

Your right Jules on this one. Enough points without job offer = PR, come in and do any job. Job offer on list = PR, must stay for minimum of 3 months.

Don't worry, it will state on your visa if they have put a section 18a condition on your PR, and as Julie and Kim have said it is only for 3 months, then it will be removed and basically you can do want you want! (within reason :laugh )
