Just been sorting out paper work and even though we have only kept the important stuff there seems to be quite a lot of it.

Did you leave some at home with relatives?

Did you take it all in your suitcase?

Did you put some in the container?

What did you do with all your paperwork?

Remember that feeling well !!!

I went off to Argos and bought 'The Man Bag' for all our documents.

It was a shoulder type, but masculine :roll ( *read the only one my husband would carry *) looking hold-all and we put all the IMPORTANT paper work in that and kept it with us as hand luggage.

I say IMPORTANT, because I was very, very thorough with the use of the shredder !!

All we put in the man-bag were the documents that would have been extremely difficult to replace such as all the evidence used to gain our PR (contents of the ITA basically) birth/marriage certs, insurance, bank refs etc.

Everything else that we thought we might need later went in the container.

We had to make it work for us, because when we flew out last year, it was at the time when there were airport restrictions, so we had very limited hand luggage and in a way I'm glad, because it made us throw out all that we 'may' need and only bring what we really did need,

If not sold house..leave house details with relative or closest friend whoever live near your uk house, like guaratnee for windows, FENSA etc if any or hand in with solicitors. We made mistake by took it with us, so we had post it back to UK!

I photocopied all our pension documents, life insurance stuff, etc and left copies with my dad, i had also cahnged the forwarding addrss to my dads for any stuff like that too, until we found our 'new' permanent place here, the originals of those all came in the container. The really important stuff as Julie says, birth, marriage certificates, driving licences, came with us in our 'man bag!!' (So why was i the one carrying it???) Also all the NzIS stuff came with us, and Kev's work documents too.

We took the originals of the important documents with us on the plane and left copies with our parents and in the conatiner.

All the stuff in our filing cabinet was packed into file boxes by the shipping company

We also had lots scanned onto the computer and saved onto a disk. This is still coming in useful as we needed to send off a copy of our passport the other day and we could just print it out that night rather than waiting till the next day to pay the photocopier in the library a visit.

If its any consolation I am still surrounded by paper one year on. Although I am now proud to say I have finally sorted out all our Change of Addresses and no longer need the 2 mail redirections and PO Box! :raebanana

Cheers

Tia
