O.k..... got a job (phew), sent off the EOI( missed the March pick), organising medicals (how much!?) and police checks (how long!?). It would be interesting to know, from people further down the line, what sort of overall cost we may be looking at for the two of us, providing all goes well, and whether a job offer speeds up the progress.

Yes, I believe that a job offer does speed up the process.
As far as 'How much does it cost?' is concerned - well, when we got past the £7,000 mark I stopped counting............

Job offer makes everything very quick - if you send everything back with the ITA, including police checks etc, it can take just 3 weeks then.
Well just the immigration bit cost about £2000, but then there's flights, shipping, all the costs involved in selling a house, buying a new one etc. Will your new employer pay relocation costs at all?

I'm now waiting for my talent work visa. Getting all the paperwork, medical etc sorted out took about 2 months. Now it's the wait for the visa. They assure me it won't take too long, but I'm starting work over there on 1 May and I can't finalise anything on this side until I have the visa! ARGHHH!!! I'm chewing off my fingers and my toes from pure frustration!
All in all (documents, medicals, application fee etc) it has cost me around R 2500 ($500 NZ).

Wow! Perhaps applying through the talent visa is much cheaper than the skilled migrant route??
Our application (for a principle applicant and one dependant) has cost us R15 000 so far. This is without an agent (which would have been about R20 000 more from what I hear). All we have left of course is the migrant levy of about R3000 once we obtain PR.
All money well spent though :)
