Hi
It has been a little while since I have posted as I have been in hospital (will spare you detail) women's stuff!
Our Expression of Interest was selected on the 14th March 2007 :raebanana We have 140 points and no job offers. We are now in the process of putting our house on the market and thinking about reccy trip summer 2007 ?? (not sure). I have still to have my qualification assessed and am about to send thos away fast track service as soon as I get everything I need. My qualifications are on recognised list however, need them sent to NZQA and Teaching Council to teach in NZ.
What do we do now? Police checks? Medicals? how long do these last and how do we make sure the timing for all of this is right?
Very sorry if this has been covered before! not sure what to do next?
One more thing, our Expression of Interest was selected on 14th March and we have not heard anything since so........ what happens now? :roll

I would really appreciate any advice

Thanks in anticipation :)

Hi Lisa

Having been selected doesnt automatically mean they are going to send you an ITA. The next thing you are waiting for is "decision successful" on your EOI. You can check the website every day for that (I did!!). And once you have that, it means that your ITA is on the way.

I would definitely do the police checks and get your qualifications assessed now. And also make sure that you have all your other documentation (birth certs, marriage cert, employment history etc etc) because that stuff can cause the hold up.

I would only book the medicals once you have been given an ITA. Medicals are only valid for 3 months. Your ITA has 4 months in which to be returned to Immigration. So, once you receive your ITA, rather book the medicals for about a month later so that it does not expire before you have given your ITA in again!

Good luck. Its all a case of "hurry up and wait"... :)

Hi Lisa

Congratulations. I would definitely make sure you have your qualifications assessed first. Police checks can take up to 40 days to come back but if I am correct, they are valid for 12 months (???). As kiwiroberts said, wait until you have your ITA before you book your medical. Our ITA took almost 3 months to arrive, however this does seem to have gotten better recently.

I would start getting all your other documentation together now though - A4 birth certs (not the small version), marriage certs, work references, contracts of employment, P60's, wage slips (obviously you don't need every single one but enough to prove your employment history).

Good luck.

Yes it is a juggling act. We have booked our medicals but I have postponed them for another month due to NZQA taking so long. You cannot submit ITA without NZQA info and as discussed medicals expire after 3 months. We have gathered all other info required and are awaiting NZQA...at other peoples mercy! :roll

Congrats Lisa&Andy

As you can see by our figures we got selected in Feb and it took less than 3 weeks for the ITA to land on our door mat! It certainly seemed mighty quick to me, but no harm in getting registration and police checks completed.

You get deselected if it turns out you don't have enough points after all. It happened to us last year, we basically misinterpreted the instructions and claimed points where we shouldn't have:o A year later, we've got a much better idea of the process and unfortunately we need a job offer to move along. I does show that there is more than one way to accomplish one's goal, though.:nice1 I hope you get a decision successful, and have one less thing to stress about!

Oh dear that is not so good! I hope we have followed the instructions carefully :roll My OH is an Electrician and I am a Teacher. Our points were based a lot around my OH and his work experience and trade whereas I got points for my degree. OH is main applicant

I hope it all works out for you guys and thanks for the reply

the main area people fall down in is adding points for - work exp in an area of absolute skills shortage - when they dont have the quals to back it up (level 4 for an electrician). or sometimes selecting - work exp/quals in a cluster or a future growth area - when they dont have a job offer in NZ. that second one is harder to get wrong though as they have changed the online system to prevent you claiming points for that without a job offer.

so anyway - so long as you haven't done those things you are pretty much guaranteed an ITA. so don't worry!

I am not sure if we have done this right? :uhoh My OH has sent his qualifications to the ERWB and they sent him information back saying that he would have no problem getting a license however, he would have to sit a couple of courses whilst in NZ and the Health and Safety course he can do in the UK in London. Does he now have to send all of his stuff to the NZQA?

Thanks for your advice I really appreciate it.

have you claimed points for work experience in an area of absolute skills shortage? if you have and your OH doesn't have a job offer then you will need NZQA assessment of his quals. if you do need it then get them sent off ASAP as they can take a while to come back and you dont want it holding up sending your ITA back!

:uhoh Yes we have done that! Oh no! :uhoh
My OH has had advice from Chandler Consultancy telling him that if the ERWB say he will get a license (as long as he sits the courses and finds an employer in NZ) without the NZQA!
So we can by pass the NZQA if my OH gets a job offer? this is very stressful :(

Thank you so much for your response

if you dont have a job offer you will need the NZQA doing regardless of what chandler consultancy have said!

if you do have a job offer then the extra points you get from that means that you wont need to claim points for area of absolute skills shortage. so you wont need NZQA doing provided your OH doesn't need it for job registration - and it sounds like he wont from what ERWB have said.

but basically in the situation you are in right now you aren't going to be able to return your ITA without either getting NZQA done or getting a job offer.

My OH has taken a bit of convincing that this is the case because he is taking advice from other people and not paying attention to the fact that the ERWB and the NZQA are different bodies!!...
I have another question for you if that is ok?? (sorry :uhoh )
What does my OH have to send to the NZQA? Is it wage slips, P60, references, certificates and letter from ERWB?

Thanks again :)
