Hi my name is Dave my wife judith and my 2 year old daughter beth are due to arrive early 2008. I am joining the army and will be living in army accommodation for a while on arrival. Could anyone help with a few questions that we have.
What are the army houses like and a photo would be great if anyone has one?
Are there many jobs available my wife is a carer in the uk?
Are there many groups or clubs for kids?
At what age does school start? Is there nurserys at 3 years like in the uk if so will we need to register before we arrive?
It would be great to hear from anyone in that area or anyone who can help answer our long list of questions (we will have more next time).
Hopefully hear from you all soon Dave,Judith and Beth.

Can't help unfortunately with the army life out here, but just wanted to say hi and welcome to our world. Have a trawl through Dawn's posts as i am certain OH is in the armed forces and she'll be able to put you right. Also she is located down in the Manawatu too.
Just had a look at Dawn's blog and it seems hubby is just waiting for comformation regarding joining NZRAF. They may be able to help.

Hiya and welcome to the forum - from a Palmy based forumite!!!
We have 3 boys, two are at school, aged 11 and 9 and the 3 year old and myself have just joined a playcentre. We had the choice really of that or Kindy, or private care, but as I am a stay at home mum this seemed the best choice for us!
We also go to jumping jellybeans in the library, kids in motion at a local church, so there are groups around to join, just depends what you want to do!
Kids start school here in NZ on their 5th birthday (poor kids eh what a birthday treat!!!!)
There is another person here on the forum called mark - forum name DSC who is moving here to Linton camp - don't think he has any children but it may be nice to get to know him as he may be based at the same place!
Can't really help with jobs for your wife, but any more things we may be able to help you with give us a shout, either on the forum or via PM if you want.

Hi Mate! I was at Linton the other week for a meeting, a bit like any army camp really, mix of State type houses and more modern ones, mainly bungalows. Its about 10 mins out of Palmerston North which has more things to do than you can shake a stick at. Loads of jobs for everyone. A very bouyant 80k person city, been here 2years and we adore it. We have 3 under sixes. There is a great community at Linton, loads of stuff going on. The country side is very beautiful and empty beaches only 30 mins away, best NZ snow skiing 2.5 hours...how bads that!!!!!! There are endless things to do here from jet boating to crazy golf!! PM me if you like, I will give you my ph no. and you can call if you like. I will wax lyrical of life in the Manawatu!!!!
Warm regards, Dom.

We are currently in the same boat, hubby has got a job offer from NZ army at Trentham, he served 22 years in British Army, we hope to be moving round about December if everything goes to plan. I have not been able to find much info about married quarters other than most who get posted to Trentham seem to rent privately when they arrive. This gives you the option of choosing the area and the school for the kids = we have two. Another good reason to move from December onwards is that is when they have their 6 week holiday, it will give us more time on the ground to research the area. How far have you got with your applicaton?
