Hi all still finding my feet on the forum as you can probably tell.

Can someone give us a rough idea of the costs we are likely to encounter if we submit our EOI - Is this about £150?

Then the visa applictation itself about £550?

Medicals about £500?

What is Migrant Levy? (about £420)

I know about shipping and flight costs - it was just the immgration costs that I am unsure about:confused:

Kind regards
LesleyS xx

Are you (or OH, whoever is primary applicant) going to need your qualification assessed by NZ Qualifications Authority?

Depends on how many are in your family- we were a family of 4 and just paid 420 pounds for the migrant levy, but that's the max you'd have to pay on it. Are medicals really that expensive in England? I'm in America, and without insurance covering any of it it still cost less than $500.

All those fees really pale in comparison to shipping and airfares!

Hi CJ Chris - thanks for the reply

My OH is the primary applicant and he will be applying under the General Skills Category, working for an accredited employer. He has City and Guilds qualifications, but was not asked to show evidence of these at his interview. So the answer to that is probably no.

Hi Tigerlily - thanks also
There are 3 of us mum dad and daughter, and yes you're right these costs do pale into comparison with air fares and shipping, but I don't want any nasty surprises to catch us out financially:)

Our medicals are going to cost over £700 (2 adults and 2 children).
Xrays £109
bloods £210
adult exams £250
child exams £150.
Is this average? I would like to know. Thank you

We had our medicals this month in Salford: medical £90 adult, £45 child.
X rays £60 each (none if child under 11yr); bloods £85 ea. (not needed for child) So for the 3 of us it cost £515.

If you do a search on medicals you will find some cheaper than that, some on from cardiff, can't remember who, paid to go up to Manchester and stay in hotel and cost including medical was cheaper than having medical in cardiff, so its worth shopping around

That was us! Saved £500 by doing that and had a fun experience into the bargain :)

My medical, bloods and x-ray cost £340. Bit pricey, but I live in central London and went to Harley Street (for the first time ever. Actually, it was also the first time I have ever paid to go the doctor, too. I found it quite an interesting experience - every time I passed someone on the street, I wondered which doctor they were going to, and why.)

Lesley - not sure if you have checked out the panel doctors yet or not - but we used the Lindley group practise next door to HRI, Drs Mason and Mason, Parker and Parker, we had to go to the bupa hospital at Elland for the x rays, their prices were very similar to the prices of Doctor Milion in manchester which a lot of people used, but you won't have the expense of travelling there!

Our costs for the medicals for a family of five, 2 adults, 3 kids were

Adult medicals x 2 = total of £240

Kids medicals x 3 = total of £180

Xrays x 2 = total of £110

Blood tests x 2 = total of £90

Hi Marcia

Thanks for that, at least that gives me some idea of the costs now - I looked on the NZIS pages, and was pleasantly surprised to see that a panel doctor was so conveniently placed, which make a change when you live in this neck of the woods!

Another question tho - at what stage in your plans did you get these done time wise? I think we will be coming to NZ around Sept permanently.

Kind regards

Thanks everyone. I have just calculated that our medicals are over £200 more expensive than up North. May have to start shopping around.

sept 07 is a pretty tight timescale if you haven't submitted your EOI yet! in terms of getting your medicals done - dont do it too early as they only last 3 months. i'd say book them once you know your EOI has been pulled out of the pool and has passed the initial checks (the online submission should say "decision successful" at that stage) by that point your ITA should be on its way to you so you are unlikely to end up having to have meds done twice! on the other hand police checks take 40 days so do them early and if you need NZQA assessment get it done ASAP!

Hello Trigirl

Thanks for that information, I had no idea that they only lasted for 3 months - but I suppose it makes sense practically speaking.

Is it just the adults in the house that have to have a police check? We have a teenager too, although she has never been in trouble with the law (not yet anyway)!!!!!!:roll

Kind regards

Lesley, I believe it's 17 and over for UK police checks, based on our experience.

Lesley, they recommend giving two weeks notice to try and fit you in at the doctors i mentioned - they are pretty busy as they do the medicals for Australia too.

Time scales, i would say as soon as you see your EOI has been pulled out, book the medicals, and if you are pretty certain you will get pulled (ie you have a job offer or the 140 points,) then get the police checks sent off when you go into the pool, they take 40 working days and last for 6 months, they only cost £10 each so no big deal really - we just went down to the HQ in hudds, with our passports, driving licence and a letter with name and address on - such as council tax bill, you fill the form in there and then with them and pay your money, they give you a receipt and away you go - to wait again!!

Once you have put your EOI into the pool, I would recommend starting to gather all your information together, birth certificates, certified copies passports if you are keeping your originals to give you the extra time if needed, work ecperience proof, proof of living together etc. Will make it easier for a quick turn around with the ITA.

Good luck!

Hello Marcia,

Iam writing all this information down as we speak, Alan has received a job offer in the Bay Of Plenty, should we now submit the EOI? I think we will have 140 points with the offer.

Do you have to submit proof of the offer of employment at this point, or will just the empoyer's name and address do? Sorry to be always picking your brains xx

Kind regards
LesleyS:)

Ps: thanks Gil for the police check info x

Submit EOI now, you only need name and address of employer at this point. You will be selected immediately though with 140 points and a job offer, things can move quickly then. You will need proof of job when you submit ITA.

Yes and proof of job means a letter and asigned contract from the employer. Reading the threads some people have had problems when they've not submitted these. We had a problem in that the people I'd got a job with had sent a contract which went awol in the post so that took time waiting for a second.
Also if you've lived in any other countries in the past 10 years you need police clearance from them too.

marcia

Lesley its up to you if you want to submit the EOI or not, but we waited till we had paperwork for the job offer in our hands, as Kiwis are noted for their laid back attitude, ours took a while to come through, but if you at least have an email copy of the written job offer to start with thats something, but keep on to them for the original to submit with your ITA.

Once your EOI is pulled from the pool they will check with the employer that it is a valid offer, but you still have to send in the paperwork later.

Good luck.

Don't worry about all the questions - how do you think the rest of us got so clever !!!!:D

:) Thanks Marcia

To be on the safe side I will wait until the offer has come thru in writing - don't want to rush it and end up doing it all again.

Kind regards
Lesley:)
